WordlWar2 Mod

OK, a friend and me are big fans of Day of Defeat (http://www.dayofdefeatmod.com/). But this game is death right now :/

Most servers are with bots.
And the last human palyers feel IMAO like LAG LAG LAG.

So why not creat a "new" dod/WW2-game with the sauerbraten engine?

I already started to play with the source. And I think I can do the programmer stuff. But my skills are zero in creating models sounds and textures. :(
And as far as I read in this forum the creators of the Sauerbraten content dont like it if we reuse there stuff...

So I like to ask who can help a bit with thinks like this?

We need

models: WW2 Guns like riffles, grenades, pistols and later some models for the players

sounds: for weapons

textures: something to creat city ruins


The first goal for this mod is very small:
- startpoints for allys and axis
- one or two weapons like riffle and grenade
- one map

Great to hear that you want to start small, but does the world really need *another* WW2 mod? :p

Anyways, with all the mods for Sauerbraten recently appearing, I keep wondering how far the "easy modding" restructuring of Sauerbraten is evolved already. Maybe it would be better to wait for this (planned) feature, before messing with the code?

I also have some ideas for a Sauerbraten TC, but I really want to wait for easy scripting and a proper playermodel filetype (md5 with IK would be a dream ;) ) to be implemented in SB. Oh and the LOD system that was recently talked about.

I wont create any new models but i can provide you with old models in .3ds format. Getting them into the game is your job as i hate md2/md3 with a passion.


What would you like guns, vehicles, player models, enviroment models, or something else. I have everything from the mg42 to an aircraft carrier. They are all textured but most arnt animated.


I have a ton of WWII planes, from my work with x-plane, but i dont think you will want those.


I also have the "correcct" sound for each model, if they make a sound.



Right now my compuer is in the shop after i installed windows on it and it got a virus. It wont boot into OSX so i told the apple people to fix it.


BTW, the only great world war two game ever created was BF1942 and that is why 2000 people still play it like 7 years after the release.

I dont want to wait. I also use this to improve my knowledge of C.

We also need new textures! Perhaps you can search the web for some free stuff and creat a map with it?


@theW4: Well, who like md2/3? :(
I like to have weapons and player models. But still dont know how to animate players... (md3 dont support separat animated parts?)

Of course the sounds are interresting, too!

The other models can be used later. After the \"core\" is finish and some new maps with ambiance are needed.


Windows on a Mac? Why do people this terrible things? :*(

(sorry for this spam page, I search another filehoster for the next version)

I added a stamina system for jumping and runing (SHIFT). A first map (alpha) with brand new textures. And I changed the weapon a bit.

I still need now models. For example a playermodel not as "fat" as the ogre and with duck animations.

Not too bad, I like the map, and the stamina works decently. The ogro model *should* have a crouch animation, since it was designed for Quake 2.

well, the ogre model has a crouch animation... (used in edit mode) but it maks the ogre not realy shorter :(

Perhaps somebody still have some free quake 2-3 soldat models for my. All I can find are death links on the INet.

I searched "free md2 models" and I found it on Google i think...

@slider: the upload on the "spam page" was limited, so I had to remove most stuff. The source, too. Next time it will be with source.

Sourceforge will approve your project if it is open source, no worries. Sometimes it takes them a few days to do so as they get a lot of new project requests.
