New Release - AssaultCube v0.93

AssaultCube v0.93 is now released!
The ActionQuake guys asked us to change our name, so..

changelog:

* a new name: ActionCube is now known as AssaultCube. best feature ever..
* new map ac_snow
* mini team-radar
* map overview
* ingame documentation reference (command prompt and menus)
* water reflections
* dynamic player shadows
* bulletholes
* 3rd person demo playback, pausing and slow motion (experimental)
* team chat
* new 'admin' client role, break into locked servers
* new explosion gfx (sauer backport)
* improved weapon sway
* small physic improvements
* improved scorebard
* server MOTD (message of the day)
* master can now force a player to the enemy team
* player collisions improved
* local renaming of duplicate player names (sauer backport)
* improved app launcher for Mac (sauer backport)
* reload animation now plays correctly
* flag now drops correctly on heighfields
* akimbo pickup does cause a weapon change anymore when using the sniper
* ctf join bug fixed

I'd love to see AC include some more maps;
but sadly, all posts to quadropolis (at least those I've actually looked at) for AssaultCube, haven't really impressed me.

Well, to you AssaultCube mappers /out there/ :
- Only two CTF maps is really too few,
so maybe someone can find a kewl Assault-Type layout in their cubistic dreams?!?

- other game-type specific maps might make sense - on quadropolis for sure, maybe even in a release, if the map itself convinces the dev-team ... like all you sniper-fanatics out there,
make a map with TONS of sniper positions ... that could really rock any (T)OSOK match!

- arena-style maps : these are by far the easiest to create ... but if you go for such a "plain" concept, you definitely need to put a lot of work into making the most of cube editing and "smoothen" (I remember "k" for corners) your structures - e.g. one of the latest submissions for AC on quad has some "inside" areas - as often happens with beginning mappers ... they've turned out WAY TOO SMALL, you get stuck at every corner and edge ... this sucks - bad time - w/o clip and/or no-clip like sauerbraten you really need to use the grid to your advantage - remembering to leave enough room for 2 (or 3 or 4) players at key locations (e.g. doorways or arches or such) is CRUCIAL.

Could Cube 1 maps be brought into AC? The same engine...

We could get permission from the author of a cube 1 map. (Some of those Cube maps seem like they could be in AC)

if you get permission, yes this is do-able.
The map-format is virtually identical,
loading w/o problems.
Making them AC-ready though, will require some work; regarding waypoints for example AFAIK.
I've not mapped for AssaultCube ever and it's been ages since I've done any Cube mapping.

The only thing I think you would have to do is delete the entities like jumppads that aren't in AC


Sauer crashes when importing an AC map into it for some reason...

I will give the cube import a try in AC, and another try with AC->Sauer

SauerBraten says that the Map header is malformed when trying to import an ActionCube map, which leads me to believe Cube->AC and AC->Cube will fail too.

No no, Cube->AC because AC comes from cube. Cube->Sauer because Sauer is, well, Cube 2. Cube2 -/-> AC, because Sauer -/-> Cube.

I can't connect to any servers.

I click on multi player, update serves and it says it is doing something to do with masterserver.cubers.net, then when it loads it says master server not replying.

deactivate/adapt your windows firewall to allow for traffic. If your running something like ZoneAlarm you need to enable AC to "run as server" (or whatever the option was).

hey, im on a mac with mac os x. when i try to set up a server it says "didnt respond to ping, check firewall" or sumthing along those lines. even if i turn my firewall completely off, it still says to check my firewall. any suggestions?

that message is quite misleading since most certainly you are just behind a router (isn't everyone these days? more likely than a firewall) and must set up appropriate port forwarding

Although it pertains foremost to Sauerbraten, it's nearly accurate in regard to AssaultCube (just the ports are different) : http://cube.wikispaces.com/Multiplayer+Guide#hosting

To cut it short:
if you've been handed a cheap router by your ISP, you might not be able to forward ports as required - then you can't host a server, sorry.

What absinth said is completetly correct; just adding my 2ยข worth ;)

I didn't found where to post bugs for ac so if there is a threadcould you say please where it is?

Ok now the Bug:It happened when i zoomed with sniper and changed to knife.I had the zoom with the knife.I tried it again just press fast these buttons in a row:Zoom>shoot>knife(i pressed 4)
then you should have zoom with the knife but you can even change weapon if its not snipe.you can change to another weapons like Shotgun then suicide and you have secured the zoom.

I've got a bit of an issue with AC too -
my computer has turned off without warning 4 times while playing. I have seen this problem zero times when AC is not running.
Any ideas on what could be causing it?
