June Map Competition

Okay, so I'm in the process of drawing up the next map competition, which will start 01/06/2007 and end 30/06/2007. Using this schedule it may/may not be a monthly thing, depending on the turn out. This means you have a little less than one week (as I need to draw up the protocol, charter, etc. beforehand) to submit any suggestions you may have, which is what I am looking for.

The competition goal will be to make a capture map, as (good ones) are sorely needed in the distribution at this point in time. That means there is a remote possibility some will end up in Sauerbraten if it is deemed good enough by the developers.

* Do we want to limit the map config and/or texture set?
* What other prerequisites/rules should we enforce (use of specific entities, etc. being capture bases are a given).
* Should the map also be playable in other game modes?
* How do we want judging to be handled; as a community effort, or by a few select members?
* What kind of prize can we offer to the winner (can we possibly set up a donation pool, or require entrants to pay a fee, the winner takes all)?
* Any other ideas?

So come on, go nuts.

1. Maybe select a nice textureset, just not as limiting than before. (the choices were good, just maybe a bit too challenging..
2. No idea, I am no capture expert.

3. see above

4. Maybe a combination ? Some Jurors and a community voting?

Preliminary draft of the 'Sauerbraten Mapping Competition Guidelines': http://www.quadropolis.us/node/631

Comments? Does it seem too restrictive?

I'd like to see a category which allows for original textures, with a limitation on file size. Not sure how much bandwidth quadropolis can push.

Currently, Quadropolis won't accept files larger than 2mb.

Other competitions are already in mind (one idea I have is a "sculpting" one, where entrants create a statue or something out of geometry). I also plan to have configs which allow the entrant to modify/add a certain number of other textures.
