In case you haven't noticed, there is a web-based server browser at http://wouter.fov120.com/cube/masterserver/
Check it out and let me know if there are any problems / wishes.

Or maybe they simply show up as "unreachable" because they don't have port 28766 open, because that port is not listed in the Cube docs...
I'd too like to see some more complex stats for the server (besides game type/what map is running). Maybe stuff like player with most frags, average frags/map, most popular maps and so on. I guess that'd require the server to write data to a file/database or something.

The source code and specification for the original network protocol have not been released. The implementation you'll find in the public sources is different from the one used in the official Cube binary release.

Hey jim, the last release of Cube had a fault that made the game freeze in Linux when you connect to a server. You must get the Linux patch and all will work fine!
Get it here:

#43: serverbrowser latency and bandwidth friendly specs |

I'm developing a KDE panel applet to show when a server is active. It just downloads the web masterserver page, and parses it, so changes color if there's an active server. when i've made it ok, i'll maybe add fancy features like displaying nb of srv, ppl, active modes and popup menu to launch cube on one of the active servers.
I'm just wondering, what is the frequency of masterserver update, and what update rate can i afford without unpleasing fov120.com (the development version is downloading every 15 seconds, but if this isn't ok, i can change it).

As it only downloads the web page, it doesn't includes cube protocol source, so it'll be easily adaptable for any mod developper to connect on it's own masterserver if it have a web one...
So of course it'll be opensource, so someone can adapt it for Gnome or windoze.

to the timid,
with all the new masterservers coming, it might be good for the client, to check that they send nothing but addserver commands.
right now it executes anything in the script, cf. serverbrowser.cpp, line 285. which looks easily exploitable.

http://dplomat.web1000.com/downloads/kcubeapplet.tar.gz
needs the libs to compile KDE application (qt-devel and kde-devel (kde-libs-devel?))
./configure -prefix=/usr (or other kde location)
make
as root:
make install

#48: Cube KDE panel applet, version 1.1 |
by D.plomat

Improvements:
-server list sorted by #ppl
-displays some stats on the applet body
-fixed some errors in the Makefile generation, that prevented compiling on some distros/some versions of qt-libs
