Adding Textures to Sauerbraten

by rcdraco away on 05/17/2007 16:06, 14 messages, last message: 06/02/2007 13:12, 1587 views, last view: 05/01/2024 14:35

How would I go about this, and what are the limits, I want to use a GIF for animated textures if possible. How large can the size be, how large of filesize, any special limitations on the extensions?

animated textures are not possible. as far as i know you can use as large of a filesize as your video card can support. they must be power of 2 sized tho.

Check out some of the map.cfg files in the packages subdirectories, they'll give you a good starting point, and then look at the mapping reference in the docs.

I mean custom textures to add to the game, I have textures that I made that I want to put into maps that I make, and I can upload the map and textures somewhere.

Create a folder in your packages folder call it whatever you like i.e 'test' and pop your textures in there. Create a packages.cfg file add these textures (look at other packages.cfg files for examples)

heres an example

texturereset (this optional if you want to customize texture sets)

setshader bumpspecmapparallaxworld

texture 0 "test/j128_metpan05_d.jpg"
texture n "test/j128_metpan05_local.jpg"
texture z "test/j128_metpan05_h.jpg"
texture s "test/j128_metpan05_s.jpg"
texture 0 "test/Box12b_d.jpg"
texture n "test/Box12b_local.jpg"
texture z "test/Box12b_h.jpg"
texture s "test/Box12b_s.jpg"

then in your map config file add these textures to it like below again see other .cfg examples

exec "packages/test/package.cfg"

you can add individual textures from other folders like this

texture 0 "ik2k/ik_sky_day_back.jpg"
texture 0 "golgotha/water2d.jpg"
texture 0 "test/brick_d.jpg"
texture 0 "test/cathedrale_c24.jpg"
texture 0 "test/wallpaper_c09a2.jpg"

just remember to put the name of the folder they are in as above

sorry

texturereset would actually be included in your actual map .cfg

I see this is covered in the cube wiki http://cube.wikispaces.com/

It's probably more efficient to post links into the wiki. Hmm.. maybe the forum should have links to the docs&wiki in the sidebar?

Wiki links do not help...the answer to this thread is all over this forum, in the /docs directory from a package install, AND the wiki links are both in the /docs, as well as all over this forum....yet people STILL come here and post questions that have been posted several times ( some questions are asked and answered more than once in the same thread!! ) rather than lifting a single damn finger to answer themselves without help.

I also made this, if you want it rather than having two question marks in a row.

It's not consistent with the icons, but I couldn't really think of a better way to indicate "wiki" than ripping off the Wikipedia motif. It's what everyone associates, even though it's kinda dumb.

it's cool, but the puzzle piece looks upside down to me...

Not sure I follow you. How do you mean, "upside down"? Direction for a puzzle piece is meaningless, except for the direction of it's content... in this case the W.

Elaborate please, and I'll see what I can do.
