Source editing help

I am experimenting with Sauerbraten.

How would I let it read the JUMPVEL (jump velocity) and other variables out of a cfg file?

Why does this throw out an error?

switch (strength) {
case 1:
strength < 12;
JUMPVEL = 150.0f;
break;
case 2:
strength < 10;
JUMPVEL = 125.0f;
break;
case 3:
strength < 3;
JUMPVEL = 100.0f;
break;
case 4:
strength > 12;
JUMPVEL = 200.0f;
break;
default:
JUMPVEL=125.0f;
break;
}
