Problems making a weapon model

by Overlord on 05/04/2007 22:02, 8 messages, last message: 05/07/2007 09:18, 1305 views, last view: 04/04/2024 08:53

Would anyone be able to help me with designing a weapon model? So far, I created the model and replaced the data with the Sauerbraten pistol weapon, but it doesn't appear in the game correctly. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated! =] Here is a link to the model:

Thanks in advance!

You could try to import the pistol to you modeling program and then place and your model like the pistol.

An MD3 vwep model wouldn't be compatible with the MD2 player model, unless you're talking about hudguns.

I had a lot of issues with this - the secret is to make your model *very* small, and slightly below and in fron of the origin. It's easy to make it too big, and then you can't see it. For some reason, if it's too big, it won't display at all.

If you make it small, you can start to tweak the positioning and everything else. It takes a little bit of work to make it so it won't stick through walls.

I also had to rotate mine 90 degrees counter-clockwise.

"It takes a little bit of work to make it so it won't stick through walls."

You could just specify the scale in the model cfg to prevent this.

Right, but you still have to have the model placed correctly when you model it. In order to keep it from sticking through walls, you have to have it shrunk down and almost at eye level.

two things that caught my eye upon looking at the files.

1, it should be md3.cfg, not md3.txt

2, this line in the cfg;

md3skin ./skin.jpg

it needs the name of the mesh of the object. check for it in blender. the line should read;

md3skin nameofobject ./skin.jpg

As for the model it is rotated incorrectly and the slide action is offcenter.

looking at the model from front view with the gun pointing at you rotate it on the z axis -90 degrees. make SURE the object center is at 0,0,0.
