GeForce 7600 and texture_env_combine

by Vatharian on 04/20/2007 15:48, 13 messages, last message: 04/27/2007 13:32, 1348 views, last view: 05/01/2024 15:11

I have Windows XP SP2, 1024 MB RAM, nVidia GeForce 7600GT, newest possible video drivers, and I get "No Extenstion texture_env_combine" Error. I consider this as a bug, because my card supports this set of extensions, proof:
http://www.delphi3d.net/hardware/viewreport.php?report=1617
So my question is how to get past this error.

Check your drivers.

Well, if by checking my drivers you mean trying to run any other game that utilises OpenGL, then they're checked. DxDiag also says they're ok. And reinstalling them didn't help.
Any other suggestions?

are you running nvidia's forceware drivers, or the ones from the card manufacturer?

Forceware ones. I read Beside logo and installer, XFX's drivers are indetical to nVidia reference ones. At least XFX tech support says so.

Check your drivers options, it happened to me too with my nVidia 5200.

Be sure to disable the limit of OpenGL extensions.

"Be sure to disable the limit of OpenGL extensions."

But how?

I have no problems with my 7600. But I got the Mac version.

#9: SOLVED!

by Vatharian on 04/26/2007 00:42

Yay,I solved the problem! Thank you Max of S2D!

So afterall, nVidia drivers REPORTS TO THE SYSTEM, THAT HARDWARE SUPPORTED OPENGL VERSION IS 1.1! All mayor extensions, including texture_env_combine, are part of OpenGL 1.4 and/or 2.0 specification, thus Sauerbraten and many new other games (including but not limiting to Pete's OGL plugins for PSX emus) were not working fooled by a driver.

So for a record:
Go to nVidia control panel -> 3D Settings -> Extension Limiting.

There may be situation, where this setting is grayed out (!) like in my case. I solved this by running RivaTuner, going to OpenGL tweaks page and selecting OGL version string override to 2.0 (previously 'no override' was selected).

So no more "no extenstions, buy new card"! Yay!

#11: 200 dollars US?

by demosthenes on 04/27/2007 06:29

I spent just over 200 USD for the two 7600GT cards I have. Newegg.com for the win, I guess. Why was yours so much more expensive? O.o

Because it's GF7600GT, with 1600MHz DDR3, 600 MHz core, passive cooling, two DVIs, HDTV Vivo, and Oblivion included. Oh. It's an AGP version. And it came in pure metal box. :D
I spent exactly 221$ on it.
