Latest CVS Export Is Broken

by marcpullen2 on 03/25/2007 07:24, 5 messages, last message: 03/31/2007 03:39, 984 views, last view: 04/25/2024 07:44

I just exported the latest version from CVS and running the batch file shows this in the DOS prompt:

The system cannot execute the specified program.

If I run bin\sauerbraten.exe, I get this alert error box:

This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

You can use the -D command on cvs.exe to get a previous version, or just manually browse the CVS repositories for an older .exe.

You could also try compiling from scratch yourself.

I'm just reporting the error. I'm not a coder... :)

Which is why people who aren't developing with Sauerbraten shouldn't really use CVS on a regular basis, unless you know what you're doing (esp. regarding compiling).

I use it because I like to see the latest and greatest and because I'd like to contribute in other ways (e.g. testing).

If you guys don't want me to say anything about a problem I find in a public CVS build because I'm not programming, please just say so.

CVS isn't always stable, and the .exe isn't always up to date with source code changes. So if you use the one included in CVS, just make sure that you have backed up the latest working .exe (just make a copy of it). If there's a problem with what's in CVS, just revert to the last one that worked.

However, it is ideally better that you compile your own .exe from CVS if you update from CVS very frequently, as we often make a lot of changes before we update them again.
