Map Maker's paradise?

by Gnarler on 03/12/2007 06:42, 12 messages, last message: 03/21/2007 14:35, 1848 views, last view: 04/28/2024 19:10

Hi, I'm new.

I have been making quake 1 maps for 2 years now, and just discovered sauer. Great game, I could rant and rave about how awesome the idea is and whatnot, but what I have here today is an idea.

Impliment a CTF style gameplay, good vs evil, and it works just like any other ctf, except map editing uses a resource. like to edit a block is free, to make a block costs 5 and to remove costs 10. resourse can either be piled up constantly and traded, or picked up as an item (replace an ammo box or something). What this accomplishes, is as a team you can still be tactical but you dont get that moron who deleates everything.

Or, have 2 team leaders with limitless editing, have their team be forced to use the resource, and start them off seperated. 10 minutes of map making, then the team goes forth to get the flag .

Obviously there are ways to screw this up, but I'm sure there are soloutions to beat this. Thanks

Another idea to add onto yours is to vote team engineers.

This idea is fun. I've played something similiar to it in a Tribes Mod. The possibilities of constructing while fighting would be even more fun.

This is a really cool idea. I love the idea of constructing while playing. However, I think that you shouldn't be able to enter edit mode, especially since you're invulurable and whenever you enter edit mode your health is completely filled. Instead, you get a special gun that shoots the cubes (1/64 size probably). It acts just like the editor, except you can't select cubes (the white outline appears, and when you "fire", the cube comes into existance).

Unfortunately, Sauerbraten doesn't support realtime lighting. Wait, that's a good thing too ;-)

if we had this mode i wouldnt care if we had fake lighting. in fact i dont think the lights would really matter because you cant edit them.

why not just have "fullbrightness" seleceted...sure no shadows but is the lighting the important factor of this game mode? i've played a few maps that dont have lighting and i didnt really notice it as i was concentrating too much on GIBBING lol. great concept, hope it happens :)

Well, sometimes you need the noclip editor to get to some places to get the right angle on the box you want to edit, so I was thinking of making the edit mode where you can get hit.

or, have a 2 month long contest to see who can make the best prefabs such as bunkers, doorways, insta-walls, trap pools, etc, save them into a menu item dedicated for the gameplay and have it so people can bring these up during the game. Focus on design, because as a level designer, seeing a box wall with no detail on it in a level with intense detail stands out. So in order to solve this, either have the maps playable on pretty basic looking, or high quality prefabs.

Another thing you might want to implemant is if you have a GUI menu for them to access it (mapping parts) from. Also have a command to tell the client computer (for the mapper) when to send the newly mapped section to the server, this way the fellow gamers don't see section of the structure being developed and get in the way.

This sounds like it would be cool...but it's not going to happen with lightmaps. Any texturing, adding or removing cubes from a compiled map ( this includes pasting in prefabs ), ruins the lightmaps.

Maybe a set of mapmodels to be used, instead of map geometry? The mapmodels are already lit as soon as they are placed in a map. We could have some walls, bunkers, fences, etc.

Now that I've contributed to this wish-list, I'll say, I don't expect to see much changes to the MP portion of sauerbraten at this point. Maybe bug fixes, but I doubt any new features are in plans.

The only thing I see Sauer DM REALLY needing at this point, is some way of controlling those DAMNED cheaters that plague every public server I try to join. SauerDM is a blast just as it is, if people just wouldn't/couldn't cheat...but I know this is asking a lot :(

The new cubes wouldn't be lighted at all.
