Sauer CVS Version - crash at end of MIDI

by marcpullen2 on 02/26/2007 05:39, 7 messages, last message: 03/02/2007 00:26, 1040 views, last view: 04/18/2024 22:34

It would be nice if we had an official bug tracker, or some way to submit bugs. :)

When playing the test map for the RPG in Sauer (latest export from the CVS), the engine crashes when the MIDI song ends. It was an error that is captured by Windows where it says "submit info to Microsoft" so I couldn't capture what it was or the actual error. It mentioned the MIDI renderer/player or something.

#1: Flyspray

Yes, Sauerbraten should get a nice flyspray system, an example of such system can be found at http://ipodlinux.org/requests

#3: we don't have a bugtracker because...

95% of sauer crashes are driver related. In only 5% of those cases can we make a workaround.

Any REAL crash or feature bugs in Sauer itself are usually fixed by me or eihrul in CVS instantly... Sauer has had very few real bugs throughout its lifetime, we have a very different development process compared to most projects and have no use for a bugtracker that would be empty most of the time.

Already on the forums here most "problems" people report are problems with their system or their false assumptions on how something ("should") work. We don't want to have to waste time sifting through hundreds of such false alarms in a bugtracker.

If you have a REAL bug, get us the data to reproduce it and if indeed it crashes in Sauer (not in the drivers) we will fix it instantly.

Chances are, your particular bug is an SDL bug or more likely a driver bug. Does the problem happen with ALL midi files? does it happen for someone with a very different system (try asking a linux user, in your case). If it crashes for them too, I'll be happy to have a look.

Ok.

Can anyone not using Windows XP reproduce this crash?

Load up one of the RPG maps and let the MIDI music play to the end. It should loop at the end and play again, on my system it crashes the engine hard.

I'm on an AMD 64 bit dual core, tons of RAM, descent video, etc., and a Sound Blaster X-Fi (mid range card), latest drivers, yadda yadda.
