Changing skyboxes

How do you change skyboxes, I think you go and edit a txt file for your map but I dunno where it is.

#1: skyboxes and Macs

by [QS]mayhem on 02/25/2007 05:18

I've created my own skybox images and saved them in my own folder under packages. They are 512x512
I've created a .cfg file for my map with the loadsky command. The docs are very helpful in this matter.
When i load my map it says it cannot load texture packages/mayhem/...
could not load sky textures
etc.
I've searched through the forums and googled a few different ways but all i've found is something about Mac .jpgs not working sometimes...is this still the case?
Do I have to add my skybox images as textures themselves?
Thanks in advance

I think your specified path is not correct. just use "loadsky mayhem/mayhem", maybe that's it.

And WTF are "Mac JPEG"? There is only one JPEG standard. Maybe progressive JPGEs don't work, but that's nothing to do with Macs or not-Macs.

Did you name the skybox files the same method as the other skies in sauer? You have to use _lf, _rt, etc on each filename, or sauer won't know it's a sky.

More info about the content of your map.cfg would help. Theres a lot that could be done wrong in this area of sauer editing.

You might just look at other map.cfg's syntax and format, to see if your problem is obvious, before you try anything else. I'm sure your problem is caused by a map.cfg error.

Here is the contents of my .cfg file:

fog 1500
fogcolour 512
loadsky "mayhem/icy"

my jpgs are called icy_bk etc in accordance with the other .cfgs i looked at

I'm sorry for the lack of info, i realised that after i posted...as far as 'mac jpgs' are concerned i thought the same and i can't find my source for that now.
I tried saving them as extremely high quality and most of them actually work..now i have most of a skybox around me and the crosshair image on a couple sides...really weird since i treated all the images the same.
Thank-you for your responses even in the face of such a vague question...it's not all that important for me to get this working,(i can always use the given skybox images) I was just experimenting with this wonderful editor. It looks like this is an operator problem so i'll work on that first ;)
Happy fragging all
