a weird error (i can't see the menu!) and some questions

by legolover64 on 02/17/2007 09:39, 5 messages, last message: 02/18/2007 08:52, 892 views, last view: 04/27/2024 13:23

first, let me congratulate the team who put this wonderful piece of software together. truly amazing.

second of all, it seems that when i hit escape, i can't see the menu. the console says "unknown command: showmenu" and i've tried redownloading and reinstalling Sauerbraten (win32) many times.

also, what are the terms of the sauerbraten licence? can i sell the game with my own maps? only my own maps? can i modify the game engine and sell it? how much bandwidth do i need to host 4 people? 10? 50? 100?

i'm looking into setting up a large war-like server, so any and all help would be appreciated!

thanks!

Delete your config.cfg in the Sauerbraten directory.

Even better, do a full uninstall of Sauerbraten (even manually delete the directory) then reinstall it, should work fine.

Sauerbraten is licensed with zlib, but ONLY the source code is. zlib is generous enough to allow you to sell your product, provided you supply users with the source code and all your content is your own.

For hosting 4 players (umm, thats not very 'large-war' type heh) you'll need 256K downstream and 128K upstream. For a 16 player server you're looking at 4000K downstream and 2000K upstream.

umm, downstream is to be much smaller in fact. what you need is upstream as you're going to send out every client's data to everyone. so you have a packet coming from 8 clients at once, which is 8kbytes (as an example), each of these clients' data is sent to other 7 clients, giving 8*7 = 56kbytes outgoing at once, while only 8 are coming in ;)
