Cube crashes on W2k-SP2 :(

by DGH[Bytestorm] on 07/17/2002 03:23, 11 messages, last message: 07/22/2002 13:46, 1018 views, last view: 04/25/2024 02:36

I got Windows 2000 SP2 with mostly all actual Windows-Fixes installed... And Cube crashes directly at startup :(

Be more specific about what's on your computer (eg: motherboard, chip, os, video card etc...). Also be more specific about the crash (eg: copy and paste the output).

Your problem is you forgot to stick your thumb up your ass before starting up CUBE.

CUBE runs much better with a thumb up your bum.

Just kidding, really though Like shockie said, not your OS causing the problem pal.

Look to the video card first. Update those drivers. When you say crash, does it just kick you back out to the desktop, Lock up your computer, Or kick your dog in the head?

i have 2 systems running windows 95 in dual boot, and 1 just plain win 95, they dont run, ill c if i can get the error for you....

later on: ahh, i didnt have the latest winsock *feels silly*, tries again after searching for it thru over 73,436 files for it...

OH FFS!!!

ws2_32.dll which it requires needs a newer version of windows, it is offering for me to fork out my hard earned money to microsoft to upgrade to a newer version, i dont think so, its only a PI 233!!!

If you upgrade to win 2000 I don't think you would be able to play dos games on Win 98, I think its because of Fat32 that Win 2000 use.

win2k uses NTFS (New Technology File System), as does windows NT X.X

windows 2000 is essentialy windows nt 5.0

windows 2000 can run on FAT32 (File Allocation Table 32 bit), which windows 98 uses, but win2k is native to NTFS as it is more secure and faster for it to access. most dos games in my experience with using win2k on both fat32, fat, and NTFS usualy work fine, as dos is implemented quiete well, compared to Win NT 3/4.

windows 2000 and windows 98 can co-exist on the same fat/fat32 partition quite happily (most of the time) as long as win2k is installed after 98 if that is what you mean?

if you can upgrade to 2000 (i realy dont think you can) from 98, then it should not cause problems when installing.
