Exporting latest build from CVS?

by marcpullen on 02/03/2007 18:58, 10 messages, last message: 02/06/2007 02:08, 1083 views, last view: 04/27/2024 12:44

If I wanted to grab the lastest build from the CVS repository using WinSCP, how would I accomplosh that?

And is there a way to sync with it on a nightly or weekly basis without having to re-export all of it?

I didn't find anything helpful from searching SourceForge's help and FAQ or here in the focums.

I'm interested in keeping up to par with the latest builds basically.

I have a login with SourceForge back when I did work with the EDGE project a few years back (a classic DOOM source based engine like ZDOOM).

Use this:

http://www.syntevo.com/smartcvs/index.jsp

Easiest cvs client.

You will not have to re-export or something.

Just from time to time run the client and click update.

Setting it up should be fairly simple (use that data provided on the sf pages), just the way you enter it is a tad diffrent.

That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks!

The other thing I can't figure out is the address for the CVS server.

It's asking for something with this format for the address:

:pserver:user@cvs.server.org#2401:/cvs/repository

I can't seem to find that on SourceForge's site for what I need to enter to get to it.

Any idea?

You need to split that stuff in the smartcvs app.
Click "check out" that will lead you to entering a repository to check out.

Choose "pserver"

As username enter "anonymous".

Server will be "sauerbraten.cvs.sourceforge.net"

in the field repository path enter:
"/cvsroot/sauerbraten"

when prompted for a password, leave it blank.

After that, you can choose where to store the stuff, and then it should start downloading the files, just follow the dialogues.

Oh, forgot: when asked for the "module" you want to check out, choose "sauerbraten" (not "sauer")..

After that, smartcvs should remember the project, open it on startup, and you can simply press "get changes from repository" button to see if thereĀ“s any changes available.

Perfect! That was exactly what I needed. Thanks for making that so easy to setup. :)

If you ever get sick of SmartCVS, using your standard cvs.exe method is, if anything, easier, just pass the command "-z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@sauerbraten.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/sauerbraten co -P sauerbraten" to the exe and it works fine, doesn't re-download stuff you already have or anything like that.

I suppose if you wanted to schedule it, you could just use the one inbuilt in your OS.

There is no cvs.exe on windows.

No there is not, but it's a very small download. I agree with Passa, for the average anon checkout/update, plain old cvs.exe is the easiest method.
