#58: SauerMod v0.20 Release |

Due to the significant divergence between Sauerbraten Spring Edition and CVS (which is what SauerMod is always based on, making use of the latest engine features), doing a release soon is no longer a viable option without alot of work backporting. The other option was to make a very unstable Spring Edition release when it came out, which I didn't want to do.
I may look into making a patch release for Spring Edition in the future, but as it stands now, you will have to wait until the next Sauerbraten release for the next installment of SauerMod (which will probably be alot further along than v0.20).
For those game enough, you can try out the CVS version now (this requires the CVS release of Sauerbraten, in case you didn't already know), which features the near-complete Side Scrolling Platformer module (most of what is needed are just tweaks and the train platforms).
I'd be very interested to see some maps for SSP to include in the release (whole worlds consisting of eight maps would be a double bonus). Feel free to contact me for help regarding this, but keep in mind I'm not a very skilled mapper (which is why it'd be better with other more skilled mappers), but I know SSP semantics inside and out.
Anyway, my apologies to those who've been awaiting v0.20. I understand how patient you have been, but this limitation is unavoidable with the current project structure.

SauerMod CVS is here: http://sauermod.cvs.sourceforge.net/sauermod/mod
To check this out you would use the server 'sauermod.cvs.sourceforge.net' module name is 'mod'.
You will also need the CVS version of Sauerbraten, although not for the source code but for the packages. I can only help you with problems directly related to SauerMod though, not Sauerbraten.
This may change in the future as I have permission for quite a number of packages, as well as some extra futuristic stuff.
Hope this helps.

Because SauerMod was in a broken state when Spring Edition was released, I was unable to make a release at that time. The code has since evolved using the most recent enhancements to the engine and I am not particularly fond of backporting once again as the changes have become too numerous.
Just use CVS versions for both. When SauerMod has it's own content it will no longer require Sauerbraten at all, and hence will not be stuck to it's release schedule. You'll have to wait until the next release if you want a release-grade product.

In Quad it says that this is a mod based off of the current version of sauerbraten, this is incorrect, as there is no spring edtition version :/

The copy in CVS is in constant sync with Sauerbraten, as I stated before, SauerMod was in a broken state (with heavy development going on in both the SSP and FPS modules) at the time of the Spring Edition release, so one was not made.
There's still been some heavy development, which has all been marked as 'cvs edition' since the last release:
http://sauermod.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/sauermod/mod/src/changes.txt
For the feature set you'll be graced with come the next release, it'll be worth the wait any way.

Quin: Just keep the Mac OS X project files, as you don't have to do anything special, open them and it compiles with the source files, the only data in a mac os x project file are binarys, the source files are not stored in it ;)
In other words, just leave them in, and eveything is fine... ^_^'

They need to be copied from Sauerbraten and altered to contain SauerMod's changes (extra files, etc). This would need to be done by someone who actually //has// OSX, as I do not.
I don't even really maintain the GNU/Linux stuff, apart from altering the Makefile when I add something, other people ensure it actually works in the end.

SauerMod (in a somewhat old form) can be downloaded for the GUI and Water editions of Sauerbraten. Most of the fancy stuff that's been added since, such as SSP, is CVS only at the moment (which means you need Sauerbraten's CVS as well).
The next release will happen when Sauerbraten's does, as it has quite alot of new code and content that I make use of (model translucency, ironsnout, etc).
Quick lowdown:
- Checkout Sauerbraten CVS
- Checkout SauerMod CVS
- Put SauerMod in Sauerbraten's directory
Sounds simple, it's just the CVS stuff that trips people up. I don't really recommend the average user participate in CVS builds, unless they're especially keen.

I might have to fix that, seems not all browsers like the xhtml extension, but quad wouldn't let me upload html files.
The project is hosted at sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/sauermod

Wait, translucency? I thought we were just able to adjust at what point the transparent/opaque cutoff was at, not make models truly translucent.
