Sauerbraten Machinima

I was thinking of making a machinima in Sauerbraten. I was just wondering if
a) Would modding Sauerbraten be legal (changing character models, weapons, etc)?
b) Would distributing the movies be legal?

I didn't want to make a new thread for this, so:
You can easily change the main character model. Go into /sauerbraten/packages/models/monsters and replace the ogro folder with another folder (named ogro) with your skin+other files for the character. You could probably change weapons the same way too. The problem is that the character does not change when the gun changes. Is there a way to force the model to change when the gun changes?

Why would you want your character to change whenever you switch weapons? Or did I misread your post?

In MP games, you only see two models: the player with a gun and player with fist. The player with the gun can have any gun, really. What RedFox5 asked was if it is possible to see the actual gun change, too.

Exactly. I assume that would take a lot of modelling and coding. You would have to code an if statement for each gun to change the character model, correct?

Sauer uses vweps, so that issue is rather simple to fix... once we have the models of course ;)

The models are the problem, really. The other main problem, however, is that shots come from the chest, rather than the gun. That code would be hard to do.
