I\'ve been reading the sauerbraten docs & wiki for the past couple days, but there is one thing I\'m still curious about.
How many players can a (reasonably modern) dedicated server hold before it negatively impacts client and/or server performance? I\'m just wondering if the netcode is good enough to support 20-32 players basically.

It depends on how much bandwidth the server has available. IANAA, but the server isn't particularly CPU intensive. Servers hosted on cable/dsl tend to support 5-6 players well.

I can get 8 players perfectly (no lag whatsoever) on a 2500kbps down/1000kbps up connection. I've had 12-14 before, but it starts getting laggy (most people get 300+ ping)
Server is NOT CPU intensive AT ALL. Mine is run on a 3.4GHz Pentium 4, and it uses like 200k of RAM, and normally uses like less than 1% cpu usage.
Compared to a Source engine ded. server, which uses like 500mb ram >_>

6 players do good on my 4000down/400up cable connection. Server is an old G4 (350 MHz) with 780 MB RAM and the system is far from maxing out.
