what do the %1 %2 %3 %4 %5
mean in the batch file? could i take them out? what are they for anyway?

They mean pass the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth parameters to sauerbraten...
so if you ran file like this (from the shortcut or a commandline):
--code--
sauerbraten.bin -w1024 -h768 -grpg
--code--
the command would look like this:
--code--
bin/sauerbraten (options in batch file) -w1024 -h768 -grpg
--code--
4 and 5 are blank tho.
Google "windows batch files" for more info... search for parameters.
