Replacement player/ogro model |

Hi. I've picked up Sauerbraten a couple of days ago and it's been a blast. I must admit though that I don't like the monster models though, and I get the sense that these are only stand-ins.
Rather than complain, I want to create at least a few replacement models. I'm going to start with replacing the ogro model, since it's also the player model.
I've opted for a slightly generic, slightly futuristic marine-type guy to start with. I can post concept art and model screenshots in this thread and take peoples' suggestions until I complete a final model.
So here's my first concept art. The guy is basically boots, knee pads, body armor, short sleeves, gloves, and crew cut.

So, feel free to make suggestions on how to improve my design.
Some other things I like to know are:
- What polycount range I should aim for in my final model
- What resolution the final texture should be

Hi there
Nice to see this community has so many people willing to help out and improve the game. I sort of like the original models, and i think the ogro is pretty cool, but i\'m all for getting some new content as well. Concept art looks pretty good, hopefully you will get to actually create the model so we can use it ingame.
Somebody correct me if i\'m wrong, but as far as i know a good poly count is around 3000...?
And no i don\'t think posts are editable :)

Since we use md3, a reasonable limit is 1500. Any poly more should _really_ have a good use.

Glad the art checks out so far. I'll get to work on a model right away. Hopefully I'll have something within this week, depending on my homework situation.
I guess I like the ogros to. I just sort of wish there were separate models for the player and that the models had a high enough polycount to match the beautiful scenery.

lol, the ogres are soo cool :D
I also wouldnt mind a litle change though. I think it would be neat if eventually sauer evolved to using a model format supporting bones. I dont lan on writing the code so I cant complain though.

This is 288 polys. I need to finish up the head, and then maybe polish up the overall contours. After that I'll add the clothing.
I didn't expect so many in favour of the ogro. :) I'm new here though, so I guess it's not that surprising. I suppose what's needed is an updated ogro model with 5000+ polys. ;)

Youl should have a look at the proportions. The legs are far too short and the arms too thick.

gotta love wings! great program.
just remember, your 288 polys is more like 1100 right now. its triangles that matter not polygons. and everything gets doubled when you mirror it.

The Horde: Holding down the alliance!
Perhaps, (since this game is evolving so rapidly), the team based games should be one type of race against another. IE aliens vs humans vs zombies vs trolls. Similar to Halo 2 I guess.
