Auto map save

by CrazyTB on 10/09/2006 01:18, 3 messages, last message: 10/10/2006 04:56, 838 views, last view: 04/07/2024 19:29

Today I was doing a very productive coopedit mapping session. It was getting really good. Then, suddenly, sauerbraten froze, and I didn't save the map after most things were done. So, I lost the map (I have a half-way done version, but it was too much work lost so fast).

I suggest an auto-map-save feature. This should be enabled whenever we start editing locally or in coopedit mode.

The idea is to save the map every <X> minutes (4 or 5 looks good). To avoid filling the hard drive with useless temporary maps, only the last <N> (5 is good) auto-saved maps should be kept.

basically this:

savemap5min = [sleep 300000 [savemap; savemap5min; ]]

plus some added smarts to control it however you want it...

... though the real answer is for you to reproduce it so that it can be fixed.

Compulsory saving is your friend.

Didnt the other people in the coopedit session save the map for you?

If youre working on a map by yourself offline, make it a habit of saving whenever you do something big. I have had heaps of crashes when building maps, but luckily I save the map every 3 minutes or so anyway. By the time the map is done, my base folder is like 100mb from the .bak files ;)
