Xfire Support

by Passa on 10/08/2006 15:33, 12 messages, last message: 10/11/2006 15:22, 1254 views, last view: 04/21/2024 11:52

Well, I'm a devoted Xfire user and I wish for Sauerbraten to be supported in Xfire. That is up to the Xfire devs to do, but some things can be done to Sauerbraten to make its compatibility with Xfire better.

Two things needed for maximum compatibility:
1. An installer that creates a registry key that contains the installation directory. Atm my Xfire script only supports the default install dir, and for me its on drive F:\ so I had to manually change it to that.
2. A command line launch parameter that connects to a server instantly at launch. This would allow for game join via Xfire.

I'm not simply requesting, part of the process for getting a game supported at Xfire is to make the scripts for it yourself, I mucked around for abit and got in-game chat and general Sauerbraten detection working. Screenshot:

The main purpose of this thread is to rally up support. I need anyone intrested in the idea of Xfire support for Sauerbraten to hop over to the Sauerbraten thread and post there. Go here: http://www.xfire.com/xf/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=91296 to find the thread.

Thanks everyone!

Yeah, there's no complete xfire client for Mac either - I am quite disappointed in that program, since they should realize there are gamers on platforms OTHER than Windows.

I think we should wait for Sauer support for xfire until they get a clue.

but if we get support for it now, when they finally get it up for mac and linux we won't have to twist their arms then to get them to make it compatible, they'll already have it done...

and whats wrong with letting us window users have some fun :)

Actually, as a linux user I'd like to see a command line parameter to connect to a server, since it'd allow XQF support.

IMO, Sauerbraten should be free from any affiliations. XFire is not open source and is only on Windows. What a shame. No. No developer would agree on that IMO.

True. However, the features requested are general enough to be worthwhile in and of themselves.

From the linked forum thread:
"Sauerbraten is a complete open source FPS game."

Well.. I think statements like this confuse people and may make them assuming _all_ the content is oss too. Just a hint for future posts..

Sorry, kinda general, I'll edit that before another script kiddie sees it ;-)

"IMO, Sauerbraten should be free from any affiliations. XFire is not open source and is only on Windows. What a shame. No. No developer would agree on that IMO."

Hardly affiliation, most games are supported on Xfire nowadays, hardly affiliates Sauerbraten with Xfire at all. Plus it supports plenty of open source games already, Warsow for one.

No, no... Does Windows Vista support OpenGL ? -_-

If it doesn't, can we install it ?

And if we can't... can we use DirectX (i don't remember his new name >_>) to play to Free Games ? T_T

2*1 = [_]

Waaah.

Are you sure you posted in the right thread? ;-)

Vista will have OpenGL support, the Doom 3 engine uses OpenGL, thats enough already to convince them to support it.. think of all the titles that use the Doom 3 engine, Doom 3, Quake 4, Prey..

"Are you sure you posted in the right thread? ;-)"

Oops xD

OpenGL is way better than DirectX, and so don't support it is suicide for Microsoft... and Antitrust :p
