#7409: colision box |

hi. could you guys from the dev team confirm if actually there is somenthing broken with the collision detection of the md2 and md3 mapmodels in the newest release? my custom models simply don't follow the numbers stated in the MAP.cfg. they usually "spawn" with a huge box covering their entire area. they did work until the sauer water release and the original sauer models seem to work fine.
if yes, there is a fix? wich files should i download from the cvs? (i'm not lazy about downloading, i can access the net from a cybercafe only, and they don't allow me to install a cvs client here)
could someone help please?

Bounding boxes are no longer loaded from the map cfg. We decided we wanted bounding boxes set once for each model.
You must specify "mdlbb RADIUS HEIGHT" in the model's md2.cfg or md3.cfg now, otherwise an auto-generated bbox is used. See dev/md2.txt or dev/md3_sauer_howto.txt for more info.

trying to run the sauerbraten_unix-script to install this game I run into this error:

Anyone any idea how to solve this?

You need to install that library. (and probably some others)
Have a look at sauerbraten/bin_unix/readme.txt
- a list of all the libs you need.

- using "sauerbraten II" would be violating the ZLIB license
- ZLIB is not "GPL compatible"
- files in the data directory do not come with an open source license, they are copyright by individual authors (as is anything).
hint: not understanding or knowing of licenses is not an excuse to violate them.

It's not compatible in the sense he can't call his game Sauerbraten or otherwise identify with the original software.
I think you can license a Sauer-based project GPL (it would be nice if Aard saw the project first though:), but then you can't sell it. The only way to make profit then would be to sell maps and other content as separate packages. Sorry for my narrow view of things, but I think the most important part in licensing is the commercial stuff so I think this should be made clear first to avoid the most serious problems. Also what I wrote above is not necessarily all true, I'm not a lawer :P Just trying to turn the, emm, conversation in some other direction.

it is not compatible in the sense that you cannot take the sauer source, and re-licence it under the GPL. You can at best license your own additions under the GPL, but that be very unpractical, as you'd have to start identifying which lines are which license. In short: its ZLIB and not GPL.

You can't configure your server in any particular way other than the name of the server and how many players it hosts.

Just saw this on slashdot:
http://games.slashdot.org/games/07/01/22/1645252.shtml
"The Crossing" is going to be first FPS to combine single- and multi-player into a new cross-player way to play the game.
Check out these two videos:
http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/8615
and this one - which has the same bloodthirsty footage but nevertheless requires you to confirm yourself being 18+ ... dunno why ... heh -
http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/8605
... will they get it to work though?
