Show eihrul and Aardappel the code you've added/changed and maybe they might consider inducting you into the dev team.
Your antics on the forum though are hardly.. normal. You are doing yourself a disservice here by being so presumptuous, as though eihrul and Aardappel simply MUST give you CVS access.

#7212: Unknown SDL |

I already posted the question, but still need help. I even do not know, if I can try it or answer this year, because of Christmas holidays.
I need help starting Cube.
My old computer (350MHz CPU, Riva 128ZX, Windows 98) did well with things like Half Life an OpenGL.
But Cube is boringly slow.
My newest computer (1300MHz CPU, TNT2, Windows 98SE) doesn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t seem to run Cube better.
So i tried it on another system (433MHz CPU, i810, Windows 98) - still same.
So I started the silly thing and tried it on my home file server (500MHz CPU, ATI Rage pro, SuSE 10.1)).
While init Cube starts SDL and fails although it seems to be in the Cube package. So I copied the windows runtime-DLLs to the system and system32 directory without any success.
I really want to try it. The landscape editor seems to be what I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'ve been looking for, before I bought Half Life.
So what did I wrong? Please help!

The PC with the TNT2 probably has the best chance of running Cube. Albeit not as fast as you might like it..
Edit the .bat launcher so that it loads the game up in 640x480, you might squeeze some more FPS. Also check that you have video card drivers installed, because Half-Life would have run well in software mode without drivers, whereas Cube doesn't work like that.
Beyond that, none of those computers are nearly powerful enough for anything beyond 1997, if I were you I would consider getting a new PC.

Ok, this is now irritationg for me! When I exit out of fullscreen, do something, and come back to sauerbraten and go to the fullscreen, i get a mouse "lock" - i can only move 180 degrees, instead of unlimited number. All I do then is restart Sauer and it all works fine anyway. Any ideas?

Well, I wanted to be able to create a chaingun (As a test) (I have animated it, it is ready to go)... And I want it to pop up as the number \"7\" or after the sniper rifle, I have the model for the ammo too. How can I get this ingame? (I don\'t know entries well, please help me out).
Any help would be AWESOME. If this works, I can add several weapons to sauerbraten... (And post \'em online, of course)

person99: if you want the chain gun to be an extra weapon, then you have to change the source code, but you can replace a model of an existing weapon that's what i can tell you about it.
Can please post a pic of the chain gun here in the forum? I think when someone sees it perhaps he would bring it in sauerbraten ;)

The problem is, that all of these computer systems fail starting the SDL.
So I copied an new .dll from the SDL homepage and tried again.
Maybe I need a hint, why it doesn\'t work, but I didn\'t find it among all threads about OpenGL, MESA, sourcecode, API, C++ and things like that.
I just want the SDL to be started, while cube\'s initialisation.

So your saying you got
http://www.libsdl.org/release/SDL-1.2.11-win32.zip
and installed it, yes?
Because this doesn't just copy a .dll ...

Have you read http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=102911
and are you really sure you need a potentially unstable version of sauerbraten - rather than peruse the source that's distributed with every stable release!?!

sourceforge CVS has been known to be inaccessible at times.
w/o further details about the nature of your problem this is the only guess I can hazard - did you follow the sf primer on accessing the projects CVS repository? (link in my prev. posting)
re:cvs or release - haven't seen you post here before, so no clue to your depth of know-how - just checking ;)

Ive disabled shaders.
my system is
800mhz duron
geforce2 256 32mb ram
384mb system ram
Ubuntu (dapper drake)
I run deus ex on this same computer and its very very smooth in multiplay and single play.
Any tips.

I got ~30 fps on standard maps with 1GHz G4, 768 MB RAM and a Radeon 9000M, 64 MB. I doubt you can get much more than 20 fps out of your system, even with much tweaking.
Sauerbraten is not to be compared with UT-99, more with UT-2004. ;)

I disagree - if you turn down the graphics settings (shaders) then Sauer is visually and performance-wise very similar to UT. The polycounts are comparable, the graphics load is comparable. The thing that gives it 2k4-like graphics and performance is the shaders - which are togglable.
The other UT2k4 features that are processor intensive (vehicular physics, VOIP, complex AI, ragdolls, script-interpretation, etc.) aren't present in Sauer.
I get well over 120 FPS on my 2ghz machine with only partial shaders enabled (except on monstrous maps)... if you turned off all shaders and stuck to midrange maps, you should be fine on a 700mhz machine.
