Ripper, on Aard's behalf, who is offline for at least the weekend: Since you have an uber-system, I guess you are a gamer and you run other OpenGl games, so your driver config _should_ be ok. What you can do to get things working is:
- check if, for any reason, there's an opengll32.dll in your cube directory, and rename it to something else
- check if there are any other opengl32.dll files in your system - there should be only one in winnt\system32 (or windows\system on 9x / me)
- reinstall your Geforce 3 drivers (if you care, you can try out other detonator versions)
This is clearly a driver issue, I suppose that for some reason, cube is using a non-accelerated opengl32.dll on your system (usually the non-accelerated dll that comes with windows is replaced with a custom dll by your drivers)
I hope this helps!

#75: Mix_Linked_Version??? |

I am running a RedHat 7.2 system, stock kernel. I have the following SDL libraries:
[root@lanfear root]# rpm -q SDL SDL_image SDL_mixer
SDL-1.2.2-3
SDL_image-1.2.0-3
SDL_mixer-1.2.0-4
Anyway, I am receiving the following error when I try and start linux_client:
[nick@lanfear cube]$ ./bin_unix/linux_client -w1280 -h1024
log: sdl
log: net
log: world
log: video: sdl
log: video: mode
log: video: misc
log: glinit
log: basetex
log: models
log: cfg
log: sound
./bin_unix/linux_client: error while loading shared libraries: ./bin_unix/linux_client: undefined symbol: Mix_Linked_Version
Am I missing something here? I got the latest SDL RPM's via apt-get, can anyone shed some light? Thanks.

Make sure you're using SDL_mixer 1.2.1.

I had a good time playing with you last night. I am on a modem so my ping was at 450 or so but the game played well. I lost my connection last night and it was late so I thought I'd let you guys duke it out. :) We'll have to do it again.

That is something that is generally desirable in any online game now. Might I suggest that sometime in the future, if/when you add limited scripting (enough to add new weapons, and possibly events), set the game so that all weapon details, custom or otherwise, get loaded off the computer serving the game?
Also, Aard... please please, add some way to identify other players. Lack of it makes it impossible to tell who is supposed to be on one\'s \'team\' (Like it matters, everyone just ignores team settings anyways).

your team mates look blue, any enemy team member looks normal. How simple is that? It is "consistant" with ffa too.
I agree names are nice, but it is not necessary at all for teamplay.

#88: URGENT/READ: server crashing |

Thanks to metz I pin-pointed the cause of the server crashing. This bug effects both the client and the server, so both client and server must have and should get the following updated executables.
Updated executables for all unix platforms at http://tunes.org/~eihrul/cube_bin_unix_2002_02_05.zip

It did and it didn't... editing is one situation that aggrivated the bug, but was not the cause of the bug itself. The bug was actually a problem with my packet fragmentation code, which of course only gets used if really huge packets get sent in Cube, which rarely happens (except when you see a crash). So I just fixed that and I made the server code check for errors in fragmented packets sent by still buggy clients, so ultimately the worst that should happen is buggy clients get disconnected, so long as an updated server is used. Updated clients should work properly. :)
