#7161: Sound stuttering

by 7HS on 12/12/2006 07:37

Hello, I recently installed Sauerbraten on my AXP 1700+ with nforce2 AC'97 audio running Windows XP, but the sound stutters and chops badly at all times. The rest of the game runs fine. Tweaking the soundbufferlen variable makes absolutely no audible difference. I have the latest version of the audio drivers for my motherboard.

Does anyone have an idea for a possible cause of the problem? Sorry if I didn't provide enough information about my setup, I'm not sure what is relevant.

#7162: adding a map

by salt on 12/12/2006 21:13

Hey all. I downloaded a map, extracted the files, and placed them in (what I believe are) the correct folders. However, I cannot get the map to show up in the menus in Sauerbraten. How can I get the new map to show up?

Maps are not dynamically added to the maps menu, you're going to have to do /map yourmapnamehere in the console to switch to that custom map you downloaded.

#7164: OS X Configuration File

by Joshua on 12/13/2006 06:38

Where does Sauerbraten store its configuration in OS X? I can't find config.cfg anywhere on my hard drive, and I can't find any files in ~/Library that it is modifying, yet it is able to remember the resolution I have it set at.

I did a search of the whole drive for config.cfg and found nothing. Any ideas?

The setting for the launcher are stored in something like ~/Library/Preferences/org.sauerbraten-team.launcher.plist. Everything else is stored in the sauerbraten folder itself. Meanwhile the config.cfg is generated (into this folder) the first time sauerbraten is run.

#7166: Laptop Play

by bvj on 12/13/2006 21:11

Hi

I am trying to get cube running on a laptop. I don't have a joystick or mouse, just a touchpad. My attempts to play so far have just proven too hard. Is there any way that you can look left and look right with keys rather than the mouse?

Thanks

There is no way in the world you will be even slightly competitive playing either with a touchpad or the arrow keys.

Touchpad owns arrow keys for looking around anyway, games haven't used arrow keys for looking around since DooM days. Buy a mouse! ;)

#7168: Is there a REAL FAQ somewhere?

by Rekrul on 12/14/2006 07:43

I've looked at the FAQ and while it seems to cover just about every minor option the program has, it seems to be completely lacking in basic information. For example;

What are the system requirements? Since none are listed, can I assume that it works under Windows 98?

Is this a real, playable SP game? I ask because from reading the descriptions, it sounds more like a mapping/modding program that just happens to include a bunch of random maps you can play by yourself rather than a true "game".

#7169: Require assistance..

by CubeAU|savijN on 12/14/2006 10:40

I am curious is there a way to make a custom game mode for Sauerbraten aka cube 2 ? if so could someone please fill me in, because my clan for sauerbraten are hosting a competition and want to make our own game mode for it but we are unsure how to make one.

If anyone knows how this would be a great help for us and your help would be greatly appreiciated :)

Elaborate on your need for "custom game mode".

Custom maps = use the map editor.
Custom skin setup = mod the model files.
Custom gameplay modes = learn C++.

#7171: Change flag colors

by Kaaiman on 12/14/2006 23:30

I was wondering how one could change the flag color during multiplayer.

Someone told me that one had to stand near a flag for 10 seconds to change the color to grey and after that another 10 secs to change the flag in your team\'s color. It didn\'t work.
Since I haven\'t find any info about changing flag colors, I decided to post my question here.

#7172: 2006_12_04 crash during network game

by Winston Smith on 12/15/2006 03:55

OK, so we have three machines playing Cube 2 2006_12_04; two OS X machines (one of which is the server) and one XP Home SP2 machine (that's me). The two OS X machines can play fine, but when I connect to the server I only get to play for 30-60 seconds before my client crashes. The server is fine and the other two continue to play...I can reconnect but it just crashes soon afterward again. I ran Sauerbraten from a command prompt three times and captured the output:

The first time, I just started the game and then immediately hit tilde for the console and typed quit.
http://paste.lisp.org/display/32458

The second time, I started the game, hit tilde for the console, typed lanconnect, and as soon as it fully connected, I hit tilde again and typed quit.
http://paste.lisp.org/display/32459

The third time, I did the same as #2 but instead of quitting, I played until it crashed.
http://paste.lisp.org/display/32460

These three logs seem to be identical except for the end...in fact, the last two I think are the same except for the last line.

The game plays fine if I don't try to join a multiplayer game (I've only tried LAN games using lanconnect, for the record). Oh, and choosing "lanconnect" from the in-game menu does the same thing.

#7173: Single player mode

by jena on 12/15/2006 08:43

I know that this is probably a stupid question to some of you, but how do you change the player mode? When the game starts all I can do is run around on this level with no one else there. I would like to know how to change to single player mode, or any mode for that matter.

did you install over your old installation? because it looks like it`s just some shader definitions that are borked - always install into a fresh folder!

You might try : RTFM
the command is called "mode"
you can start SP and MP games via the menu too ...

#7176: Absolute Beginner's Problem

by andido67 on 12/15/2006 11:15

Among these all I couldn't find a thread matching my problem. So i feel sorry for asking a maybe old problem:

Cube1 Installation on Win98 (350MHz, Riva 128ZX, 1024x768 LCD screen) seemed to work, but after starting the cube.bat the command sdl only echoes the message "unknown commandline argument"

fps is about 25 to 29, but any reaction takes some seconds. After pressing the ESC-key it takes six seconds to open the menu. Walking around is quite frustrating, playing is futile.

by MeatROme on 12/15/2006 11:30, refers to #7176

check stdout.txt and stderr.txt - you might be getting a flood of error messages that are eating into your framerate ... but it might also very well be that your system isn't fit enough to play ... but Cube1 has pretty low requirements so your chances seem "fair" ...
... whatever are you doing running Win98 ??? I'd get some nice linux distro onto that PC, you'd probably be suprised what that box can (still) do ;-)

#7178: Re: Absolute Beginner's Problem

by andido67 on 12/15/2006 11:45, refers to #7177

Sorry again, but in some cases it will go down to 22fps or so.
Gameplay is impossible, because first person actor moves (slow?), but the graphics can't come along.

But first I'd like to know why the SDL command call doesn't work and how to fix.
