#7082: Dev Team

by Geartrooper on 11/26/2006 15:46

Bryan there is no dev team. You do what you can and submit it for Aardrappel\'s discretion. That goes for all aspects. Art, code, sound. You just do what you can.

if your keyboard doesn't allow easy access to "BACKQUOTE" you might add something like
bind CARET [saycommand /]
into your autoexec.cfg
You can always open it by pressing T (for talk) and then entering a slash (/).

does that line of code you added do anything? can you even cast 0 as a class pointer? doesn't sky[i] get assigned a new value on the next line anyway? does that even compile?

#7085: Re: Vista!

by theButcher on 11/26/2006 22:08, refers to #7074

If you install Vista, make sure NOT to install any programs to the Program Files directory. Vista locked up that directory so that nobody but the standard \"Administrator\" account can change it, but \"Administrator\" isn\'t by default available in Vista anyways.

Seing as Cube 1 is\'nt really used as much, please can Aardappel release the official source code for cube? i would like to recompile the client for my FreeBSD box and the server for my Sun Ultra 5 box.

I doubt anyone will use it too much for cheating, and i still very much enjoy cube.

Thanks!

umm... you made a one line change, that is undesirable, and now you want cvs access? I thought you were implementing dynamic soft shadows?

Is that even a comparison? They're totally different textures... how does that show any improvement? You can't compare two totally different things, can you?

Or am I missing the whole point here?

I'm sorry, noone is getting cvs access before showing that they are a seriously talented developer. I know I should be nicer to potential developers, but there simply are not enough hours in my day and too many wannabes on the internet to do that. I am speaking from experience :) What you have shown sofar is very far from convincing.

You have to implement something extremely impressive. Like drian I believe implemented md3 support and got CVS access. Changing 3 lines of code isn't enough to cut it with the Sauerbraten 'dev' team (which by the way doesnt exactly.. exist.. its more of a collaboration, content wise anyway, headed by Aardappel and eihrul, who do all the itty gritty coding.

I don\'t really see the difference here buddy. Anyone can change a skybox texture, how hard is that? I thought you where going to make some effects, like a darkplaces type of mod. But no, you just made a few easy lines of code and switched a skybox. What is the overall payoff, and use of using your so called new and improved code. Also, learn to comprehend easy concepts, you don\'t get inducted into something, without showing the best damn credentials possible. If you wanted them to add you, your mission was to make them impressed with your outstanding computer programming abilities. All you need to do is a little more work, then maybe your dreams will be achieved.

No one else can really comment on errors relating to code you've changed, unless you show _all_ of the changed/new code as well. Best wishes.

#7093: Getting Together

by Heresiarch on 11/29/2006 21:09

I think its hard to catch up with poeple to discuss building, mapping and other stuff about sauer, is there an IRC that I dont know of? or should we make one?

I prefer live chat...

Brian, why not implement collada support. Skeletal animation could be beneficial to sauerbraten

I don't think I have ever seen a worse designed file format (if you can call it that) than collada. It's on the sauer feature todo list right after freezing hell over.

"What should be nicer to you and your dev team of all, whether levels or source code or anything else?"

Content is the number one bottle neck in a project like this. Always has been, always will be.

You take a look at any of the major design decisions relating to content, and the main issue concerning the when, why, and how of them is always the lack of quality content.

Therefore, the fastest way to get a feature into sauebraten is to provide quality content for it, not coding it in yourself.
