I just installed Cube 2 as well, and after running into the problem of missing libs I ran the following as root:
yum install SDL_image
yum install SDL_mixer
yum install libstdc++.so.5
thus if you\'re on Fedora you may be able to do the same for your missig libs: yum install [libname]

1/ checkout everything from CVS
2/ Goto the sauerbraten/src/xcode folder and open sauerbraten.xcodeproj
3/ Try build - will probably fail..
3a/ Add SDL framework if broken.
3b/ If still lots of errors then copy the headers from your installed SDL framework into sauerbraten/src/include folder.
3c/ You may find serveral recent C files are missing and you have to add them manually - from memory engine/treeui.cpp & shared/geom.cpp
4/ To quickly test I drag the built sauerbraten.app into the root sauerbraten folder and then drag the built launcher.app to along side the root sauerbraten dir...

I donŽt know how many letters the korean alphabet has, but if your lucky and you can get it onto /data/newchars.png, youŽd only have to change the menus.cfg
If it doesnŽt fit on that png, youŽd need to change the source to use a bigger png.
Bout your game list: Warsow is pretty cool too imho.

Does anyone have a solution to the following problem?
init: gl
Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel(R) 852GM/855GM 20050225 x86/MMX/SSE2 (Tungsten Graphics, Inc)
Driver: 1.3 Mesa 6.4.2
Using GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object extension.
WARNING: No shader support! Using fixed function fallback. (no fancy visuals for you)
WARNING: No occlusion query support! (large maps may be SLOW)
WARNING: Non-power-of-two textures not supported!
The game runs, but one can see through most walls, and all the floating objects are visible.
Seems to be common with this hardware, but couldn\\\\\\\'t find a fix. Please help.

I've studied Korean a bit and know some basic stuff. There are thousands of hieroglyphs, most of which are common in Korea, China and Japan and can be understood in all these countries. They have different alphabets though. The Korean alphabet has evolved hieroglyphically - sort of. You have a square where there used to be a hieroglyph, which is filled with 1 to 4 letters instead. Due to the differing number of letters it can hold, there are different sizes a letter can have. So, a Korean font can hold several graphics for each letter depenging on where it is located in the square. Good news is there are no caps :)
Korean support on Win 95/98 is not good, there is Korean windows instead. Windows 2000/XP abides by the Unicode standart, and is much better suited for writing in Korean, especially if you use other languages as well.
In short, if I were to make localized Korean Sauer (and had some decent programming skills), I'd look for ways to have system apis do all the job. The biggest issue would probably be Win 98 support and support for non-unicode os-es.

The best way to make it work in korean would be using UTF-8 (a unicode encoding that is compatible with ascii).
You'd then need to supply bitmaps with all korean characters, and modify rendertext.cpp accordingly to decode UTF-8 and pick the right character from the bitmaps... quite a bit of work.
Besides that, while a LOT of the strings are in menu.cfg, there are also still plenty hardcoded in the engine.
The problem with all these modifications is of course they'd have to be re-done with every version of sauer.. I have no intention of supporting unicode for all these thousands of special characters in sauer out of the box.

how about a FAQ for cube&sauer to stop n00bs asking for features we've already told them we aren't going to implement?

Yeah right. Notice the handle on this one is .Aardappel. and not Aardappel. Very subtle, idiot. Also the ip is 172.214.44.53 and the e-mail is wrong. From whois, 172.214.44.53 is from Dulles, VA in the US.

blodd andn or gibs or faster disappearing bodies would really help

They are probably just a group of rowdy 10 year olds who have nothing better to do at school than to terrorise people on the internet.
Although, try get their IPs and see if they are the same, also gimme the IPs so I can block them from my server :P
General thought; How about a public list of cheater IPs? This would mean server hosters could block those IPs from accessing their server permanently, and a ban would virtually be simultaneous for every server :P

I've tried to tell you before :
blocking any specific IP is surely not the way to keep such cheaters out.
Most people have dynamic IP addresses, meaning they will (most likely) get asigned a new one each time they connect to the internet.
Imagine two sauer players that use the same ISP from the same city.
-EvilErik
and
-BonafideBarry
If EE connects and gets IP 123.123.123.123 from the ISP, connects to your sauer-server and gets kick/banned - then he goes on to some other servers ... later he disconnects.
Two hours later BB comes home from work and tries to play a relaxing game of Instagib ... but he get's the evil 123.123.123.123 from his ISP and thus will be banned ...
Is this fair?

Good point, completely forgot this aspect.
Cable internet is apparently widespread in USA (yeah they adopt all the crap technologies >_>) and cable usually has a static IP along with it. I would still ban an IP if it is a repeat offender (suggesting a static IP.)
Wish it was like Steam, where the Steam ID is just banned on the server instantly :P
Added note to the IP ban thing, its also easy to get around. My ISPs irc channel has rules against swearing. As soon as I say FUCK i am banned for 24 hours. I just go into my router and change my username to not include the ISPs domain name and I instantly get a new IP :P
