#5380: cube coding / map generation? |
|
by linc
on 03/10/2006 13:53
|
 |
|
Hello all,
I know im a little bit lazy but as all you coders know, analising other peoples code is quite stressfull (so many files to trace ;o).
I want to develop a network application based on the Cube 3d engine.
Has anybody ever bothered to explain how the game is strutured (regarding the source) (what links to what...[and yes, i know i have the source to read from])?
I also tryed looking for some kind of software to generate the maps but was unable to find one? Is there any simple way to generate maps?
In short: is there any map creation tutorial / cube engine tutorial? (no flames please).
Best,
linc

I love the idea of holding a tournament across one night. Unfortunately timezones make that an impossible time for me to be on. Otherwise I'd give some lucky person the opportunity to hand it to me. :)

"fixed" ? The original behaviour was intended that way. It means you need very few keys to quickly get to the weapon you want.

i think there is probably a good amount of people out there that dislike the intended behavior.
count me as another.
i am used to having around 10 specific weapon keys so i can have instant access to the best weapon for the situation.
just a fraction of a second can make a big difference on whether you live or die.
theres only 6 weapons to bind anyways (after the nade launcher is ready).

This patch still allows players to do "weapon 3 4" for quick switching of weapons. It only changes the effect of "weapon" command with a single argument. IMO if the player gives just one argument he wants to switch to specific weapon.
Aardappel: Your idea is cool but people are used to more traditional weapon switching. I think that my proposition is a good compromise.

they number keys above the letters on the keyboard: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 are bound to fist, shotgun, chaingun, rl, rifle. The mousewheel being pushed up chooses between chaingun and rocketlauncher, while mousewheel going down chooses between shotgun and rifle.
happy?

The extra functionality currently tied to "weapon X" provides no additional feature that isn't already available by using "weapon X Y Z" -- but it does lock out the ability to have simple weapon switching, which a some people (myself included) would prefer to use.

Selecting only one weapon is just a specific case. Even with multiple selection "weapon 3 1 4 0" should never, ever give a rocket (2) to blow myself up with.

yes, coming up with unwanted weapons is very annoying.
if up/down was even always toggling tween 2 specific weapons it would be better, but it only works that way after you have picked up all weapons.
if i try to switch my weapons i ONLY want that particular weapon, some other gun will just not take its place.
grenade launcher is coming, and probably other guns eventually, it will just get worse.
there was a period of adjustment too before i learned how the system worked.
any extra hassle that makes a newbie feel out of control of his setup and the game can eliminate a certain number of people from the playerbase.
