Thanks makkE:
The readme you referred to describes the game features, but not the details I've
been inquiring about.
The information you provided was helpful; I'm still puzzled that as I go through the game the objects I select or select remain present. In other words, I'm expecting that if I pick up bullets or a med kit by either walking through it; I should see in
in the things accumulating as what I possess or carry as a player. However, what I find is that the game still shows these items floating about as though I never passed through and picked them up.
This is what I find as confusing. So I'm not really sure if I actually have what I think I have or whether I actually really missed the items in the first place.
I hope that is clearer. I also hope there may be an answer. My keyboard is fine.
By the way, I tried compiling this game for the PPC version of Linux and I can't get it to compile. Any suggestions????
Thanks again....

Hmm this sounds weird.
Just to make it clearer:
Start cube. Youīll be in the start map.
to the right, thereīs the yellow armour (itīs more brown actually.)
Jump up the crate. You should hear a "click" like sound, and your armour icon should change leaving you with 150.
All stuff is simply picked up by walking over it. It will vanish and respawn after some time. Ammo count will rise when you pick it up, but only shown for the current weapon.
If thatīs not the case, something strange is going on.

I think it is because that I'm not used to
these objects reappearing or "respawning" after I have collected them.
The game environment behaves as you described; the rules it was following was just not clear to me. The exchange here has helped me understand that I have to get used to new rules and surrender expectations gained from other game environments.
The Cube behaves as you described in OS X; do you know if there is a source version which will allow Linux running on PowerPC to compile it?
Thanks....

I just had an idea, to stop lots of n00b questions (like the one I posted before) there should be a permanent thread named F.A.Q and it has obvious things in there like how to change your name. More people would read it than the docs, as alot of newbie player come to the forums after installing the game.

#5347: Sauerbraten Server |

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but now that I got my replacement router (yay!) I can run a Cube server no probs, but Sauerbraten server does not work. Whats with that, ZoneAlarm is configured to allow communication to sauerbraten.org as it has to be, and my new Billion BiPAC 7402G is configured to allow communication to both cube/sauerbraten ports on UDP.

2-16 = RUN
17-31 = RUN CHARGING WITH HORNS DOWN
33-50 = FREAKOUT 1
52-70 = FREAKOUT 2
72-135 = MAD SIDEWAYS ROLL
137-165 = DIE
167-182 = JUMP

#5351: co-op edit on public server. |

If starting a new co-op edit, or simply wanting to be left to your own devices, it would be nice if you asked people to leave and explain why, and / or be friendly and invite them to join you as a co-op editor rather than have them kicked for several hours after demanding they leave with no real explanation / invite to a serious co-op edit.
I just had this happen to me twice, and it\'s irritating not just because I was unlucky enough to rejoin the new server they picked after the old (which I am also now banned from for several hours), but also because I was never given a chance to offer a hand.

#5352: Better mouse wheel weapon selection |

I added a patch to the sourceforge/projects/cube page. Just download the little change to your autoexec.cfg file (or incorporate the change into your existing autoexec.cfg file)
This fixes the mouse wheel so that it cycles through all weapons with ammo including the fist. Also the center mouse button cycles for those without wheel mice. Enjoy!

#5353: Problems with master |

When i tried 2 connect 2 my server today he refused the connection although nobody was on; an idiot set private mode and kicked everybody on the server (asshole!; checking teh logs i found out the only one who wasnt kicked has this hostmask: ACD5FB0B.ipt.aol.com <== should be the bad guy; what a shame that he probably has dynamic ip adresses)!
The auto-master for the first gu who joins teh server has 2 be removed! Master must only be accesable by entering a password u set in server startup script.

#5354: Sauerbraten Server-Management Script |

I created a linux-script to manage a sauerbraten server quite easy. Supports start (whether in log file via nohup or in console), status check and stop.
Simply give it a try and tell me if u like it: http://dl.superdreadnought.dyndns.org/Sauerbraten/Sauerbraten
The only thing u have to change to make it work with ur server is changing the directory and the parameters (simply search for "/home/web" and ull find the 2 lines u have to edit.

#5355: master mode abuse |

One thing that we might do to mitigate this is to clear the ban list when the server empties.
Mastermode's philosophy is that nobody necessarily has a better or more moral claim to a server (as far as the server can discern), but once people show up, we should let them do what they want without interference. However, this means that the banned people are only undesirable so long as the original group of players stays on the server. When they leave, all newcomers should be treated equally.

on that, i wa thinking about kick/ban. I think kick and ban should be different commands, getting kicked from a server can cause u to wake up from whatever you were doing wrong, if you know what i mean.. and then if he rejoins and persists, you can ban him
about bans lasting until the server empties, nah. 4 hoursd is already too long, by then the guy who was banned would have given up trying to rejoin the server.

ok good point. but what if the server doesnt empty for 12 hours? another idea: make the bans last X hours OR when the server empties, whichever happens first.

some of the problems we're seeing are caused by my buggy implementation of mastermode, it should not be possible to leave a server locked in the next release (eihrul already fixed this).
I agree with: bans last 4hrs or until the server clears, whichever comes first.
I do not agree with the -p option, it helps nobody. A server should always have mastermode enabled.
People that want mastermode to be a server password don't understand the point of it. Unless you are ALWAYS around on the server, this doesn't help. The whole point is that mastermode allows people to admin a game for as long as they are on there.
If you want a truely private server, run the server with -mlocalhost, so noone except those you give the ip to know of its existence.

Ok but this solution to the problem has a weakness, they could simply stay on the server, turn their monitor off and walk away.. maaybe.. you could incorporate an RCON style system.. or make it the master can only change map, not ban people..
