#5320: hellpig and skies

by stubbe on 02/27/2006 11:37

Hi all, I'm new to this forum. On to the point, is there any animation sheet for cube monster, hellpig? Or is hellpig using the same sheet just like any other quake2 models? Since hellpig has the most weirdest animation of all the models.

one more question, how the hell you guys created skies? I cant seem to remove the ceilings in cube, how to make the upper part of the default template holed?

thanks in advance

All I know that the hellpig uses weird animations..

About skies in cube: There is no such thing as a hole in the ceiling in cube, you just texture the ceiling with the sky texture.

#5322: RPG maps?

by Tomate on 02/27/2006 15:27

I'm a fan of the cube engine, was working on a singleplayermap in a city but didn't finished it yet. Don't know if it will be finished because of the release of Sauerbraten that really kicks ass.

Then i discover three maps for potential RPG... So here is my question:

Are you willing to make you ( ore someone else ) a RPG with the Sauerbraten engine???

=]

PS: In the last release of Cube, it makes crash my powermac G5 ( osX 10.3.9 ) when the music is trying to make the loop. Damn'!

Yes, a singleplayer Rpg game is planned for sauerbraten as official game project, and is already being worked on.

If you use md2 viewer you can step through the frames of the model and guess what they all mean fairly easily.

Technically speaking, could it be possible to do an "small" mmorpg that some players/prgrammers could continue builting it while there are players in it? As the cube engine do it in multiplayer?

Could it be a dream came true?

what is it with all these MMORPG people. how is a multiplayer FPS open source game a good candidate for a MMORPG?

you'll have to be more precise... sauer uses identical netcode to cube, and both are the best you'll get on a high ping.

no, we're not making an mmorpg because unlike 99.9% of the world, we understand what is feasible and what will fail. When I start a project I like to know I will be able to see a polished result.

The RPG will be singleplayer, not even coop or whatever. The reason is that as soon as you make something networked, complexity raises by 10. Which is fine for a simple FPS, but this RPG is going to have a LOT of gameplay objects. We'll be able to crank out cool gameplay much faster this way.

My bullets seem slightly delayed and they sometimes do no damage even though I get a hit. In instagib the effects are much less.

You are imagining things given other games you know. There's no delay on your shots, its identical to single player (0 ping).

hmmm it might not be a delay, but it seems my hits do nothing alot.

#5332: Tags

by Barry Mead on 02/28/2006 08:29

When you study an existing level with the
edit mode, the tagged areas show up in red. Is there any way to identify what tag number is associated with a given red area? If I could identify which tag number is associated with a given tagged area, then I could find out what trigger opens that area on the map. I am trying to fix a map that cannot be finished, and I can't figure out what trigger opens a certain door.

#5333: Sauerbraten in a DLL

by FSG on 02/28/2006 23:34

Hi, is it possible to compile Sauuerbraten engine in a dll ?
A mean, make a dll, just like SDL for example (That can be compiled or acceced as a dll).

I've looked at the code, but I've found a main function in the engine (engine.cpp).
Shouldn't it be part of the game and not the engine ?

Thanx in advance.

#5335: Server configuration

by Kripton on 03/01/2006 11:56

Hello,
I got an Sauerbraten-Server running since yesterday and wasn\'t able to figure out to configure stuff like player-limit, welcome-msg, map-cycle and such stuff....
Can anyone tell me?

there are no such configs. The idea is that everything is set by players, inside the game.

I've viewed hellpig's whole animation through blender and md2 viewer. That is the very reason I become lost.

I also tried replacing hellpig model with other model from polycount but it turn out screwed in cube.

As for the skies, i tried it and dang... that simple eh? thanks.

#5338: Server ports

by vrillusions on 03/02/2006 16:07

FWIW I've been running a server for about a week now. The doc I found said to open tcp/udp on both 28765 and 28766. Well in the pix firewall I can do accounting and the hitcount for the tcp ports are at 0. So you only need udp open on both 28765 and 28766, no tcp.

May have been mentioned before, but figured I'd mention it again.

#5339: Picking up items & movement

by Derick Centeno on 03/02/2006 18:32

Just downloaded cube and am quite taken by it. Although it is quite a good piece of work; I find it odd that I can't easily move (can't rotate or pan or move right or left can only use either left or right arrow but can't use combinations of arrows, for intance up with right or down with left to induce a different kind of motion); also I find that I can't find help or directions regarding how to pick up or drop options or press buttons or access other controls within the game.

Is this information somwhere?

Thanks for your assistance.
