#53: Bind

by rickclark on 02/01/2002 17:07

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but the Bind fucntion doesn't seem to be updating the autoexec.cfg. Maybe that is by design?

Yep, the autoexec.cfg is just that,
an automatically executed config file
on startup. It's not a configuration
database.

cube has no demo recording at the moment (but will have). It has no scripting language, and no way to add custom sounds. So unless you want to wait until I add all these features, you are better off with q3.

One big advantage I could imagine with cube is that you could make a really tiny .zip with the full game in.

#56: Website

by e_chrono on 02/01/2002 18:50

If you want a website done free of charge then email me.
I am a professional webpage designer and need some sites for a portfolio.

I could make a design and if you so wish you could use it or on the other hand if it is not to your liking you can simply keep the current one or request that I change the site I have created for you.

Anyway, if you are interested, would like to see some of my work or would like to ask any questions then please contact me via.

#57: Cube on Linux

by eihrul on 02/01/2002 19:08

Just a reminder: when using Cube on Linux from the zip, remember to chmod +x cube_unix bin_unix/* so everything can actually be executed. :)

The Bind command doesn't seem to updating the keymap.cfg file either. It works for the current game session but reverts back to the default setting when I restart Cube.

#59: Cube for Linux md2 loading bug

by eihrul on 02/01/2002 23:28

If anyone is having trouble getting
Cube to run on x86 Linux because it is
barfing on md2s, try the client at: http://tunes.org/~eihrul/linux_client. Not sure if Aard uploaded the fixed client yet.

Nevermind... Aard is uploading fixed distro. :)

Is it possible to use a gamepad/joystick in cube, if so how?

Thanx

PS Cube is great fun...

#63: Possible Bug

by rickclark on 02/02/2002 02:13

I doubt this will be much help to you, but I thought I would mention it. I was playing on B2K in sp mode and had just respawned and was looking across the open area on the map when the sound froze and a small, borderless window popped up with Cube in the title. I was being fired on by two of the Ogro grunts. I couldn't move, but the monsters still ran around and shot at me. I could access the menu, it was behind the little window on top, but none of the options worked. I had to reboot my computer. I have a 300mhz machine with 128meg, Win95, Riva TNT2 Model 64 with 32 megs.

e_chrono: thanks, but I am quite happy with the current design.

rick: you need to add "bind" commands explicitly to autoexec.cfg. That crash you had sound like the infamous fmod bug... we tried replacing fmod with another sound library but that was worse.

underworldfan: nope, sorry. To add weapon models I first need (hud) weapon models (I am not a modeller myself).

#65: Re: Aard

by rickclark on 02/02/2002 05:11, refers to #64

That was the first problem I have had so I think that is saying something, considering I am on the low end of computers. :) I think this is the first 3D game I have played that has consistenly performed well.

Your Panquake runs well on my machine (as long as I turn off the panning). UT does ok on my machine, but I have to play in a window. It refuses to play full screen. I didn't even try Q3 since I doubt it would run on my machine. I'll have to upgrade if I want to play Doom3--or get an Xbox. :)

#66: Congrats!

by nilfilter on 02/02/2002 17:42

Wow, I just installed and ran it some minutes, looks awesome! I get some 70 to 80 fps in 1024x768 fullscreen mode, unfortunately the servers were empty...
Also, I'd like to setup a decent fragfest with a few other people.
Thanks
