@Superdreadnought - use a command "./linux_server>/var/log/cube.log &". BTW, I wrote a Perl script you can use to control a Cube server through a web
interface. Just search the forum for the word "cgi".
@Lambros - the child processes in a shell are killed if you kill the
shell by closing the window. If you close the terminal by typing "exit" any
background tasks will continue uninterrupted.
@anumanu11 - are you just trying to compile Cube? If so, posting screenshots
isn't going to help nearly as much as posting error logs. I will say that,
to my knowledge, no developer here uses Dev-Cpp. Most people here either use
GCC for Unix-like builds and MS Visual C++ for Windows.

I'm not sure (don't use Mac, but Linux and Mac OS is Linux-Like). Just create a file without extension (e.g. Cube) and write the path to the cube.app-file. Then just write the parameters you'd like to set behind it.
E.g. ./Cube.app -w1280 -h1024
PS: Don't know if it works on mac.

#5113: two small questions |

I downloaded and succesfully "installed" sauerbraten yesterday (13 dec 2005) but I have a small question regarding gameplay.
How can one switch from 3th person view to 1st person view, and back. The RPG maps switch you to 3th person view, but I'm not able to switch back to 1st person view when entering another "normal" map. Can I use a console command to do it?
I'm using game mode -2 (single play)
OS: Windows XP pro sp2
CPU: AMD Duron 1200
GPU: Geforce 6200 AGP
Game: SauerBraten

#5116: Creating a cube debian package |

im trying to create a .deb cube package for debian, but cube seems to need you to always run it from the cube bin dir because i get this error:
couldn't load texture data/newchars.png
could not find core textures (hint: run cube from the parent of the bin directory) (Couldn't open data/newchars.png)
how can i make the data, packages and other folders be in another dir such as /usr/share or /usr/games/cube?

Cube in Debian has come up before. Someone COULD make a deb, but it could not go into the main repositories for two reasons.
A) non-Free artwork. Unless Aard can get every texture artist to license their art for reuse then the art, and levels, would have to go in their own package in the non-free repository.
B) Lack of multi-user support. This is cube and sauer's most significant problem, imho. For all the amazing things Aard has done, he has not taken the time to make the game run from /usr/local/games/ but keep configuration and downloaded maps in ~/.cube/

that is OS specific conventions. Cube is not geared towards linux, it just happens to run on it.

Some intresting stuff there ,Nathan,
but "triple" and "cratejump" require no tricking at all, can all be done easily without strafing.
Backstrafe is pretty easy, the other way round is way harder :) strafe and strafe2 was nice.
"downfall"-not hard but good for play I think.

for some years now, windows is multiuser too, and there is a place for windows apps to store preferences, downloaded stuff etc. in the users home directory. having this separation was a plus there too, if you ever wanted to have a cube installer that puts the main exe and stuff into c:\programme. now, how to make such a split work across platforms (osx being different again)?

they all have systems in place that work. all thats left is making cube/sauer use them.
