I'm an freelance artist and in the free-time i love to play CUBE.
I have also sent the file to the CUBE developer so i hope the next version will come including an Icon.
Here is the file: Its a ZIP including an .ICO for the windows version and an png for all the Linux users out there.
Download here: www.continuum2.org/portfolio/sight/icons/data/Cube Icon.zip

I don't know who made it (pushplay maybe?), but it's pretty nice.

Thanks people,
im glad you like the design.
I am still waiting for the reply of the developer.
I hope he considers using it as default icon for cube.
Didn't know how the you make a link in this forum so the adress is just blank text. Just paste it in the adressbar to download by the way.

darthvim made it. i used it as a base for some sauer icons that got a pretty negative reception. eventually i'll get off my lazy bum and make sore real icons for sauer :) but with competition like this i have a hard time mustering up the energy

Hi all,
Simply some words for tell you a little problem with new developement tool from Microsoft. I got a trial version MSVC .net 2005 and it compile fine Cube (latest and previous source) but during game, if you use 'Editing mod', an ugly bug appears without crash. A specie of grey screen! Well, same source under Mingw don't create this bug. Simple information for dev team ++

#4836: Keyboard control issue |

Hi,
I have just recently found 'cube' and tried some singleplayer maps.
One problem is that with the default keyboard settings, I have to use the mouse in order to turn left or right. The keys - e.g. the arrow keys - seem only to allow to strafe left or right without changing the view direction.
Is it possible to bind 'turn left' and 'turn right' to the keyboard? In the .cfg files I did not find the appropriate commands.
Thanks and regards
Andreas

You can bind keys in file Autoexec.cfg
(...)
bind W forward
bind A left
bind S backward
bind D right
Other configurations can be modified in file Config.cfg

i'm really sorry, i feel dumb, but i don't understand anything about the readme file...
english is not my mother tongue... and above all, i'm a girl, lol...
but i'd would just like to find a really simple FAQ...
with some stupids questions like this :
-how can i change my name
-how can i put any of these commands line they tal about in the readme file (the soft is always answering that i can only do that in edit mode and when i press "e", blablabla, i'm not in coedit mode or something like that...)
-how can i see if there're some people playing on the server i'm connecting to
-is there a list of servers with the new cube protocol
-and last but not least, how to create our own server
thanks a lot, even if you answer only one of those !! ;-)

1. Open your autoexec.cfg file and put something like this in it:
name leda
2. Either press the 'tilde' key, mostly its left to the '1' key and above the tab key. Or press 't' and put an '/' before the command.
3. I think the number of players is displayed on the server list.
4. There are only a few servers, check the 'permanent cube servers' thread. Currently the masterserver needs to be updated, so it will accept the new servers and everyone can see them.
5. Depends on the OS you're using:
Windows: run cube.exe(which is in the bin folder) with -d as a commandline option. Its handy to do this from a DOS window.
Linux/FreeBSD: Start either bin_unix/linux_server or bin_unix/fbsd_server.
After the (dedicated) server is running, simply start cube as usual and do a 'connect to localhost' (from the multiplayer menu) to join your own server.

Its normal that you get a black window(thats DOS ;-)). The server will run in the background, no need for tweaking or something.
Map changing and gamemode changing has to be done via ingame voting.

Hey, i just installed Cube and on Win32 and i have a few questions. How do i run the game in windowed mode, 1024x768. I'm sure you have to edit some config file but i dont know the proper format for the file. If anyone could direct me to a tutorial for editing the file I would appreciate it. Also, when i go in the main menu and do multiplayer, and go to the server browser, the game either crashes, or gives me a list of servers. when it gives me the list, whichever one i click on, it connects me to (i guess) but no one is playing, ever, and its always the same map which i had previously loaded. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your answer! I am still used to play fps with keyboard only, e. g. a few years ago, I had a pure keyboard control in Descent-II (Arrow keys: turning, the four keys above the arrow keys: strafing, s, x accelerate and decelerate, q, e tilting, space, RCtrl primary and secondary weapon etc.).
But I will try to get used to mousecontrol...
Regards
Andreas
