as i was checking out the win32 version of cube server i noticed a very suspicious connection printed to the console of the game when i connected in through loopback/localhost.
a connection to an ad server..
http://www.rankyou.com/cpt_transfers/serv/enter_one.php?freeservers
curious about this .. anyone have an idea as to why this is part of the client connection?

anyways turns out it was the hosts file resolution. I have ad server blocking and when i connect through localhost it trys to resolve the connection as a connection to the ad server.
anyways

This is happening to me too. Nothing is readable.
Also, sound is laggy. From the time I shoot to the time the sound plays, is just under 1 second.
The graphics are smooth and impressive.
All help is appreciated.

means that whatever opengl you are using doesn't implement blending modes correctly.
As to sound on linux: I have the actual buffering done by the sound library set to a low number to reduce lag. Any additional lag is probably added by buffering by the sound driver, try and play around with its settings if it has any (buffer size is the one you want).

there are none. cube servers are designed to be able to play whatever the clients currently want, not what the server admin wants. Timelimits are fixed (10 normally, 15 any teamplay mode), and maps/mode are voted on.

#490: Strange Linux Client Issues |

When I play cube (release 6-24-2002) on my RedHat 7.3 box I have some really strange issues.
1. Although this isnt a big deal to me, all the sounds are delayed slightly. This is annoying sometimes but the game would still be playable if it wasnt for...
2. For some strange reason, all mouse movements move right. So if I move the mouse up, down, left, right, it always moves me to the right. And not a normal move either. It skips like 1/4 of the screen in my move. So that pretty much makes the game unplayable on my linux box. Here are some specs:
AMD Duron 750
Nvidia GeForce4 MX420
Using latest nvidia drivers for linux
RedHat 7.3
Xinerama enabled on KDE 3.x
Second Video card Voodoo3
Logitech Optical mouse plugged into PS/2 port (using Logitech USB -> PS/2 converter)
Desktop Resolution and game resolution set to 1024x768
Creative SoundBlaster Live!
Those are all the specs I can think you might need off hand. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I played it at work for a while and I love the game.
Thanks
Brian

does this weird mousemovement happen in other games (quake?) or other SDL games? This is most likely a problem with your system (cube's mousemovement code just adds the movement delta it gets from SDL to the angle, not a lot of bugs you can produce with that).

all commands should be listed in the documentation that comes with cube. Have a look.

Ok, everything is fine. Cube comes 'cool' on Linux ;)
Unfortunately, I sometimes get a SIGSEGV ("SDL parachute blabla").
: I think the DMSP (better known as "local deathmatch with bots") should be
bots that respawn and a numeric amount then.

DMSP is NOT a botmatch, it is trying to simulate an SP experience on a DM map (hence the name). Cube's monsters are SP monsters with own behaviour very different from the player, they don't pick up items, they navigate very simply and poorly. It is not meant to be anything like DM.
I have no intention of adding real bots to cube (it's less fun than DM against humans or DMSP imho).

I tried installing another SDL based game and found that I had the same problem (mouse movement always to the right). I tried upgrading the RPM to the latest version but that didnt help any. Does anyone know any good resources I could use to try and track this down? Or has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
RedHat 7.3
Duron 750
Nvidia GeForce4 mx420 with latest nvidia linux drivers
Logitech optical mouse plugged into ps2 port
Thanks!
