#3905: No idea.

You'd have to ask someone who's more familiar with the source.

#3906: Map Transitions

by n0one on 01/22/2005 05:54

How would one script Cube to load a new map after the player enters a new room, similar to how Half-Life works?

Also, could Cube support vehicles?

Sorry if these questions have already been asked.

Map transitions can be done with triggers, if I remember correctly. No, vehicles cannot be done. Cube is designed to be minimalistic, and as such, vehicles do not exist, and will not.

Hope this helps!

Check out the config files for the sp maps PIGCAM (they are in their own folder in the "packages" folder) within the CUBE directory.
They would be a good example of how to use a trigger to move from one map to the next.
In fact a great way to learn what CUBE can do is look at a maps config file (change fog, fov, trigger sounds & music) and many other things.

#3909: Names

by Sugardaddy on 01/24/2005 16:46

Hi! Love the opensource FPS! But, when playing online, it's a pain in the a** to type in the different commands to change ur name, cant it be changed so that whatever namne u use is put in at the start of the game, not for each server..
maybe this is hard to do, bur would make the game much easier...
Thx for a great game

See the autoexec.cfg file for a default name.

I just installed it, great system!
getting some buddies along to map with me =)
However, there's something annoying me: the lack of an inverted mouse setting.

guess I'm just one of those weird people who like to do things "the other way" ^_^.

#3916: suggested modmaking programs

by williac on 01/29/2005 18:57

Im a cube noob, I have been playing thru the maps and am really impressed by it. Id like to be able to create new monsters for use in my mods. does anyone have any suggestions for modeling programs(hopefully freeware)/tutorials that would allow me to do this?

thanks

(mods? mods as in plural? wtf?)

There are a number of different free modellers available: just search the forum for mention of them. I should warn you though, each monster with the exception of the hellpig has 197-199 frames, and several hundred vertices: making a monster takes a huge amount of time, even when you're very expirienced with your program(s).

If you happen to choose Q2Modeller, which is what I use, I'm making a Flash tutorial for it, hopefully several. Other modellers probably have text tutorials scattered about.

#3918: 2004 version slower than 2003 one

by Dylan666 on 01/29/2005 21:07

Yesterday I tried cube_2003_12_23.zip on my PC and it ran about at 30 FPS.

Today I palyed the new version (cube_2004_05_22.tar.gz) but it runs very slower, 20 FPS or less.

Is it normal?

I have a Pentium III 800, Ram 256 Mb and a Matrox MX 400 with ram 64 mb dedicated.

yes, in Rick's Bot Mod. Bots are not, however, an official part of Cube.

Cube should automatically play in 1024*768 fullscreen. I have seen it do that 20 pixels too high, when I'd be working on my mod at school, but i was running it from my pin draive on computers with spazmatic video cards. Otherwise you should edit cube.bat.

with that kind of setup, linux would be a solution. On this kind of setup, linux will give you at least a stable 60fps, with like 250 if standing in front of a wall ;)
