#3633: Probably bad GL drivers. |

I've seen many companies provide terrible GL drivers that just don't work properly. Especially laptops - my wife has an Averatec laptop where GL works just fine except that it draws grey squares around all the billboards, and billboards and particle systems take forever to render. Very frustrating, since she's studying at teacher's college and wanted to use Celestia for an astronomy lesson, but Celestia uses a lot of billboarding.
Basically, the attitude seems to be that the GL drivers must support the windows 3d screensavers and fsck all else.

Well nowadays, drivers and cards are being manufactured and optimized to get you most possible points in the common benchmark-programms, at least it seems to me. :( Take the 5x series of nvidia... shiny new dx9-s**t that noone needs, but crappy at general performance...

If I get my zeta version I\'d like to have a try.

Router, NAT, firewall, whatever. The masterserver needs to be able to ping you. Check the readme, it should say what the Cube listen port is - forward that port to your box on your router.

1) Use MinGW, it's free, and simpler than VC++. Download MSYS, MinGW, and the SDL-libs, install those.(follow the instructions on the MinGW page) When they're correctly and fully installed, you've to download the Cube source for MinGW (sorry i don't remember the download link... anyone?)
2) Then unzip the source-mingw package, and go into the source.gcc/src directory, and type make

jean pierre:
the original cube source works with MingW, of course. But with the original source you need to set thesettings/etc yourself.
btw: you dont code c++, so why do you want compile cube ?

I think the original source works only with VC++, or GCC under Linux, but you need the MinGW source to compile with GCC/MinGW under Windows
