OMG,Jean-Pierre... Please, USE PUNCTUATION and try to make it more clear what you are talking about. This is probably the 20th post of you where I could not figure out what you mean at all...

lillith: You have been on an empty server, then. The number of players is displayed in the server browser.
Either join one that has some players, or just wait a while, probably someone´s going to connect soon..

Ultra Sonic: Check the links on the main site...

Ultra Sonic: You can also try doing a search on this forum for "maps", "sp maps", or "DM maps" to see what has been posted in the past. Some of us mappers don't have websites to post our maps on.

Aard, would it be possible to have a thread set-up on this forum that only has links to maps made in the past (and future)? It may make it easier for others to find maps that have been made for Cube but are not in the latest release. Sort of a "central location center".

yeah, that would be nice, but would involve some coding by sleepy, so I am not sure.

This is just a forum, I always thought the work of collecting map links and such would be good for any of the community sites, just I guess those have been rather on & off. I try to keep a list of map sites & others on the front page, but keeping up to date with all the links is a bit of work.

If anyone wants to keep a link list and email me the html for the frontpage once a month or so, feel free :)

:)

Lilith: Check the console output then, it might be that you tried to access a passworded server.

Jean: Aardappel already mentioned his own new model format, but .md2 will be available still... I welcome the new format, though, because .md2 is rather terrible... ;)

Actually, this is something I've been looking for for other projects as well - anybody know a good open web-based system for content tracking? As in, users can submit files and other users can rate and comment on said files? Kinda like Kuro5hin but for binaries, except with a more useful archive (since the old files aren't useless like old news).

I've seen a lot of games with user-made content that need this - either the content is lost across a hundred million websites, or its all collected into one site but there is no comments or reviews to tell what's good and what's not.

sorry about the double post. it was an accident.
I recently "installed" cube in windows, but whenever I run it none of the textures show. I can move, see the sky, and see grey masses for walls. When I run it under linux it works fine.

Here's my hardward:
AMD duron 1.3 ghz
384 MB of RAM
64MB ATI Radeon 7000

Any sugestions will be welcome. thanks

Temptation to say "just use linux"....

jean, i think the idea behind aard's new format is damage models & animation of individual elements, thus cutting down on file size, etc., but i could be wrong.

#3629: I wonder

by Pxtl on 11/17/2004 19:45

about filesize. One of the many miracles of Cube is how tiny the content is - tiny maps, tiny jpegs, now we're talkin tiny models... and friggin' enormous Oggs.

I think there's a problem, but I don't think anyone wants to undertake a conversion to tracked audio.

maybe a "music free" version of cube could be released to cut down download times for you poor 56ker's. I think Cube should aspire to be as 56k friendly as possible.
