I can't judge from what I've seen but if they can code copy protection (if I understand correctly) they should be able to code the hellpig out too. My guess is that this was done fast without ill intention but without any care as well. I hope it doesn't get worse and I sure not know how it can get any better. I think we should let it go if possible.

there's lots of stuff that can be done for sauerbraten... but if you really want to help, first read all the docs that come with it and the existing code, and focus on the tasks in order rather than random features.

well, they replaced all models in place, they still have the old names. I don't think they changed the exe at all.

#3389: Snakepit

by pushplay on 10/10/2004 08:36

Well that's very interesting. You'd think that if you were going to rip-off somebody's efforts like that you wouldn't even bother with the small changes. It doesn't change the legality of what you're doing, or the recognizability of it. How did you find out about that Aard?

I'm pretty sure the texs used in Museum are only free to non-commercial use.

"You'd think that if you were going to rip-off somebody's efforts like that you wouldn't even bother with the small changes."

That's the truth. By the way snake pit is quite good description of our thing here with the Russians. We're trying to get along but in my opinion this whole thing sucks big time, and we've become even more snaky than they are. Take me for example - if I continue I could almost make it seem like a don't worry be happy thing and even convince you too. It's just talk, question is which is the lesser evil - talking or fighting and what should be done particularly in this case. So no talk, let's do something. Contact the Bilbys, contact the sites that contain game reviews, what?

Yes, trying to have them sued for a model or texture license infringement would be a great waste of time. Instead we just have to make it so that everybody searching informations on it quickly comes on a page/article saying it's a butchered ripping of a free game, with the link and have them play the original game instead :)

I think one of the bad sides of this is people who have been mocking this game may turn their attention to Cube.

#3393: How to play Cube with ATI Radeon 9100?

by Raskolnikov on 10/10/2004 15:29

When I unpacked the archive of the game I read readme file. There was a text which explained that on some cards with buggy drivers the game can\'t be played. All right, I think that my card is in this category. In addition of the main archive there\'s another archive which is called \"cube_2004_
06_06_linux_client_ATI_workaround.zip\". I unpacked it and the result was the file \"linux_client\". Can this file help me to play multiplayer with working cursor and without killing myself every time?

Try it with Windows (preferably 2000/XP) after installing the latest drivers for your graphics card. Cube is also available on a boot CD, if you have a CD burner you can try that too, check the thread "CUBE IS AVAILABLE ON LIVE CD!" for more info.

#3395: Cube Protocol?

by T arnak on 10/10/2004 19:32

How do I change my cube protocol? All of the servers I see in Multiplayer have \\\\\\\"different cube protocol\\\\\\\". When I attempt to connect it says my cube protocol is 120 while theirs is 121... how do I change this? I can\\\\\\\'t find it in the .cfg file...

#3396: You're using an old version

by Pxtl on 10/10/2004 19:55

Or you compiled from source. Don't compile from source, and get the newest version. If using win32, there's a nice exe installer at http://zarate.homedns.org/stuff/

by fragger on 10/10/2004 20:36

I like this open source engine but I don't know how i can do mods for cube (not new SP or MP levels). It is difficult? Can I use the engine only as a shooter?

Learn coding, read the source, modify the source, compile the source and voila.

#3404: Snake

by Bilby on 10/12/2004 12:39

It - very much pity, that the game "SnakeJack" has called negative emotions.
"Cube" very much it is pleasant. It is very good 3D engine.
And we took it to make cheerful game. The license - free. But some guy from a russian
review have given the wrong information. The author of "Cube" - Wouter van Oortmerssen
is determined in game.
Your site and electronic address is determined, and given "license", "readme" and "source".
We did not want to cause damage.
That it is possible to do what to correct a situation?
I regret.
