wow.
These people that insist on turning with the keyboard.. they remind me a bit of people that still believe the earth is flat. Holding on to something against all evidence.

Learning == good. It took me 2 weeks to get really comfortable with the mouse after being a keyboarder initially (in the doom days). I was amazed at the increase in control.

The ATI Catalyst 4.5 was the latest one 'till today. I'll try the new one but I really doubt it'll change anything as the 4.5 version was only two months old.

Believe me, mouseaiming is easier to pick up than you think. Give it a real whirl for a few days and you won't go back. Sure, it'll take you a while before you start becomeing an instagib champ, but its actually not as hard as you'd think to be a nice rocket-whore with only a little mouseaiming experience.

I know n00bs who skipped the keyboard phase completely cause they missed Doom and the idea of using anything but a mouse for an FPS is utterly barbaric to them. Hell, my fiancee got a headshot in UT on her first game. Really, not that hard to learn.

I am currently making a mod, with the version before the current, seeing as I didnt want to switch over while still making the mod.

A friend of mine downloaded it, but when they try to play it, they get the error...

\"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142)\"

Could anyone tell me exactly what this could be from?

Could you add me to the list of Cube mappers please? Erm, my alias that I use in my maps 'n such is "enigma" but someone has already registered with that name on the cube forum so I had to do e:n:i:g:m:a. So if you do, erm, could you also use "enigma" and not the other one? thanks.

Checked out your website, the preview screens of your SP map "pyramid of ra" look real nice. Can't wait to play it. I've been playing Painkiller to get some ideas for a new map, but I just have'nt been in the mood to map lately, I just want to kill and make a bloody mess. Keep on mapping enigma!

if you beat the boss in painkiller, tell me how you did. i just deinstalled it after 10 hours and killing several thousand ghosts in one session at the boss level... by NOT using god mode!!! but the boss remained undestroyable. painkiller is probably the most dissapointing buy the last years. better install it, watch the .bik videos and just deinstall it. that's the best one can do!

To dcp,
I gave up trying to kill the final "satan" boss. On a forum I read that you need to "blast" his fireballs back at him, he can't be killed by your normal weapons. I hated the boss levels in painkiller, but I enjoyed the different environments and the animation of the monsters in "normal" levels. Not the best game, but fun for gibs & bits!

yeah, i read that too, but after hitting him several dozen times with his rocks and he didn't fell down i gave up too... not to talk about the many times you have to kill 66 ghosts and to transform to demon just to experience that lucifer doesn't summon a single rock during the demon-mode so you just didn't have a chance to blast any rock at him in the 10 secs before you will have to kill 66 ghosts again... and again... and again...

i liked the other bosses, because you at least got a chance to find out how to destroy them (hitting the bubbles with the shotgun, hit the hammer, destroy the recharging statues and so on...) but they gave you no hint what to do with lucifer...

only thing that was good in painkiller is the superb implementation of the physics engine... nailing the baddies to the wall or tossing around some rotten corpses with the painkiller-alt-firing-mode... that was fun... ;:-)

Does Dynamic Occlusion Culling in Cube work vertically as well as horizontally?

Like if you are standing at the * (# is empty space) does the ceiling marked by ~~~ occlude or not?

I'm playing through drakkar's egysp1 map currently. I can clear the room with the 'hellpig frenzy' after teleporting in, but there doesn't seem to be a way out of the area after that. Am I missing something subtle or is this map broken in this regard?

nope, only solids do occ culling. if I understand your ascii sketch right u have a lowered ceiling-"wall" there? in this case the ceiling behind it will be rendered.

Painkiller is a great game with great level design. The cut scenes are far and away the worst element.

If you need to beat lucifer just keep a far distance from him (you do know how to bunny hop, right?) and he'll call down some rocks. Blast them into his face while they're falling (they'll have a white trail). If you do it right you'll get him on the second or third transformation. Even on ngihtmare it's not that hard really.

no, its a 2d thing. any amount of space will make things behind it not occluded.
