Oh yeah, and change the file *cube*/data/explosion.jpg to black to disable explosions (or perhaps something strange like blue.) Check out the BigCube mod for alternate explosions.

my new computer also has a cheap 64 mb integrated video card. in cube the sky doesn't show on any map (there are no error messages and the files are still there.) and the particle effects make big black squares.
is there any way to fix this? or will i have to wait untill a beter driver comes out.

Is it an "Intel Extreme" graphics card?? I'd just suggest that you buy something a little nicer such as an ATI Radeon 9000 or something... But compare them b4 you buy so you know you are upgrading.

Does xmms support ogg encoded files?
If so, then browse to *cube*/packages/fanatic (for the 2004 release) or *cube*/packages/pingpong (for the 2003 release) and copy the ogg files to wherever you want, or listen to them from those folders.

I didn't notice much difference between the ogg's in the release and the mp3's on your website (and I'm a quality freak too!). What bitrate are the MP3's?

The OGGs are 22k 56kbps encoding. The MP3s are standard CD quality.

#3014: Mouse settings menu |

I've added mouse settings to the menus under "Tweaking", submitted for your approval. Replace cube/data/menus.cfg with this: http://www.intergate.com/~spentron/cube/images/menus.cfg
I've used a multiplicative approach to allow a wide range of settings, and use with or without sensitivityscale (20% max and 100% steps). Invert is also provided. This is not compatible with the special autoexec.cfg's on my site since that uses its own methods (modifications using sensitivityscale are now possible however).
I note menus.cfg says "don't modify" but there's no way to get it on the same menu like that. Mouse settings are one of the few things that keep "just use the menu" lacking as newbie advice.

No, none of the other tweaking menu options are saved either. Adding mouse to menu just gives a way to change it until one is ready to figure out a better method. Not really a helpful addition to many here, but like I said, it's the biggest hole in all of "use the menu."
At least you don't need to enter two obscure console commands, one saved in the config and one NOT, to get the game to work properly (Quake, crosshair 1 and +mlook).

#3021: Coop Editing |

To the guys I was editing with tonight in coop, I got disconnected, sorry I couldn't join back in.
That was pretty cool too Aard! Amazing stuff to play with. I haven't tried anything online till tonight. Might go and try some DM tomorrow night. :)
It would be a lot quicker if it allowed at least copy/paste. I can understand the undo not being allowed, but copy/paste is a huge time saver.

#3023: oss masterserver |

the oss cube masterserver, announced a week ago in another thread, now is considered production quality. that its an easy thing to do, has often been said here - now it has become even easier for mod authors to provide one :)
the only requirement is a webserver that can execute perl scripts from a cgi-bin directory, ie. almost all there are. other features are realtime status display of a servers players, map names etc, and a simple admin interface. it will not work however if the cube server encrypts its communications.
thanks to aard and all the people on this forum and on the servers, that make cube fun to play.

you must have compiled the binaries yourself, or otherwise have non-official binaries
