yeah, the fact that rockets don't explode properly on the target on other clients is a bit broken... one of those things you get with my weird client centric gameplay

Howdy,
Ever since I installed the December 2003 version of Cube, I'm getting no multiplayer action. The other players do not appear and there are multiple players with my username. I see a second image of my player and if I shoot him, I die.
What's up? What is the fix for this persistent problem?

It was a bad server release. DOn't join any servers that seem to have players but are listed as being in Co-op-edit. Only join servers that aren't in co-op edit.
The bugs with the bad buidl are:
server is stuck listing as co-op edit
server has false player count
player has double of himself chasing him.
Avoid these servers. Patched servers work fine.

OK here it is. !. Good map, nice castle and excellent exploration. Faults in SP were first of all not challenging except for needing some exploration. I would consider it too easy with all health and armor removed. Also end caves and right wing have nothing in them, you can kill all in left wing without visiting the others, or skip both side wings and go for the end trigger (I presume you need to save a rocket to get up there though, I never found another route). Also the hitting head on sky thing bugged me, maybe only tricky thing about level and maybe not that strange but still ... anyway minimal geometry changes.
Anyway, three maps in a pack, 81 kB: http://www.intergate.com/~spentron/cube/rampage-spenmod.zip
The Maps:
rampage_min -- Minimal change, 7 more monsters make the beginning more challenging, which extends tension into the level as the player recovers.
rampage_hd -- full out, 134 monsters vs. the original's 29. Added resources. New triggers bring forth more monsters; kill all to finish.
rampage -- moderation of hard version, 124 monsters.
All versions use Geometry-Controlled Creature Insertion Devices (GCCIDs ;) ) aka "monster machines". In the latter two, I've gotten rid of the end trigger. The finale is somewhat lame and the beginning somewhat hard even on the "moderate" version, but unavoidably the defining moment of the map is the invasion of the castle.

Where should I be unpacking the new levels I have downloaded and how do I start playing those levels? I can't seem to find it in the docs.

The tricky bit is the level zip files usually have the info -- fortunately most zip programs let you view text files by double-clicking on them in the zip display. You may need to change it from "selected files" to "all files" when it actually comes time to unzipping though, since the viewing of the text will select only that file.
In cube, you usually have simple map files in cube/packages/base (default), maybe extra folders in packages as needed.

These maps are sort of simple especially in texturing. I did have a nice round of DMSP in arena2, it's big and involved enough, especially good with the skill up a few notches.

one more question. can you have a key that is kind of double bound eg. it does "say whatever" and "sound n" at the same time?

i try to keep them kinda simple intentionally. so it takes less time to make and for performance. i usually design the whole level and try to make it as fun as possible then go back and try to ad some eye candy to make the people happy that like to see some good detail in a map and be fun too. sometimes it seems people pay to much attention to detail and forget about map design. owell
when i was first playing arena2 online alot of people said that it was too big and didnt like so i started making them small and i got alot of good responses. i like to have a bigger map, they can be pretty fun if you have alot of people playing them. theres more of a hunt to it.
well thanks for your reply glad you liked it i just added another map yesturday check it out

Before you spend so much time on 5b or so much money on 5c, you might consider going to the sdl site and asking those guys what it means. We've never seen that error message before.
