#2082: Re: the beta...

by Aardappel|home|holland on 12/11/2003 00:23, refers to #2080

demo speed control features can be done, but like many things its a case where usefulness isn't in proportion with the code cost.

Automatically starting another demo wouldn't be a good default imho... yes it can be made an option, but its really minor.

I`ve seen detail textures that looked really cool (to me at least) with the Doomsday engine (http://www.doomsdayhq.com/files.php?class=4&type=3) and in this terrain engine (http://ohad.visual-i.com/exper/exper.htm). What is your opinion about them and do you plan something like this as a default feature of Cube?

They can look cool yes... but its not something I had planned on adding to cube. The textures in cube are a good resolution for the scale they are used in, I think.

I think detail textures would help a lot, especially on higher resolutions. If you\'re close to a wall, 128 pixels from the textures are used to cover 500 pixels on screen.

Then again, detail textures doesn\'t do much for sharpness. Maybe optional bumpmaps would be a better investment.

#2086: RE: Can't launch Cube under debian sid!

by evilynux on 12/16/2003 09:18

I get the very same problem...
i've tried both the aard's linux binary package and compiling from source/src/ .

There's no need to copy/paste the entire output as it the same as the previous post.

Comments/suggestions, to my email, as how to fix that are welcome.

#2087: Projectiles exploding in face

by aphyr on 12/16/2003 16:35, refers to #2073

I also have had this problem (rockets/other weapons exploding in face) on both debian stable and Red Hat 9, running an ATI Radeon 9700 pro with the drivers from ATI. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

#2088: New Map

by pushplay on 12/18/2003 11:54

I have a new map I'd like to get into the next cube version and wouldn't mind testing it with who ever is in the channel when I wake up.

Aard:
When you pop out of edit mode where a bridge is right under a ceiling you get stuck. Also, when you stay over a vertical jumppad it pushes you up by decreasing amounts and then after a few rounds of that it pushes you really high. That's not necessarily bad, but it is weird.

thanks, I'll look at it. It's indeed weird.

#2090: Problems at Slackware 8.0

by paulo on 12/19/2003 17:23

Hi, I'm having some problems in installing Cube in a Slackware 8.0.
I took the following procedures:

1. Made the download of cube_2002_10_20.zip and cube_linux_clients_2002_10_28.tar.gz

2. Than, in a console root shell (Konsole, in KDE), unziped cube_2002_10_20.zip

3. Still in the shell, made:

tar -zxvf

cube_linux_clients_2002_10_28.tar.gz; mv linux_client bin/

chmod +x cube_unix

cd bin_unix

chmod +x *

cd ..

./cube_unix

Still, I'm receiving the following error message:

./bin_unix/linux_client: error while loading shared libraries: cannot open shared objetc file: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory

I'm a newbie in Linux, can someone help in sorting out why it is not working?

Thanks!

I don't know what this "mv linux_client bin/" line is doing but linux_client should be in bin_unix/, not bin/.

#2092: more testing

by Aardappel|home|holland on 12/20/2003 20:34

more testing going on this weekend, probably the last before the beta "goes gold". Among other things to be tested are the new arena multiplayer modes. Come to #cube if you want to help out (esp between 23:00 and 1:00 CET).

yes, a map specific to tactics mode could do with a LOT of spawn points :)

we should have a "release candidate", followed immediately by a release if no bugs are found.

#2096: Stalingrad refusing to die.

by emerson on 12/23/2003 22:10

Perhaps I'm missing something obvious. I have killed everything in stalingrad that I can find, but it still thinks there are 4 enimies left somewhere. After opening the large building packed full of monsters, there is a column remaining that I can look inside with edit mode. There are two first-aids and a quad ankh inside but I can't figure out how to unlock it.

Help!

You want the 3rd one. The chasm is near the office building and a brown residential.

ok- that opens the column, but I still can't find baddies to shoot. If I go into edit mode, I see ALL enemies, so I can't just fly around and spot them.

#2100: Dirt Slow on FreeBSD4.9

by todd on 12/24/2003 03:33

I installed Cube from ports on FreeBSD 4.9-STABLE #1: Wed Dec 10 17:01:52 EST 2003. On a Abit BP6 with one Celeron 500MHZ cpu and 256MB RAM.

Have a 64MB s3 savage4 video card with the savage driver.

I can play dvd's etc without a problem.

The screen looks fine and it goes into full screen mode without any issues, but it drags at 5fps and changing fps in the options thru the menu make no difference.

Any ideas here?
