#15245: Re: autoexec for exiting

by Drarrhat on 12/31/2014 03:54, refers to #15244

Thanks, but it didn't work. If loadcrosshair is in config.cfg the crosshair becomes blurry (it's a white dot with a black border).

No, hou should specify it in your autoexec.cfg

I know, I did that. If I put the loadcrosshair lines in the autconfig and delete them from the config, they load perfectly. If the loadcrosshair lines are in the autoconfig AND the config, the crosshair that loads is blurry. And the problem is that Sauerbaten writes the loadcrosshair settings to the config every exit.

(A temporary fix is adding the lines to autoexec.cfg, deleting the lines from config.cfg, and setting config.cfg to read-only. But this makes it a pain to change the settings, and things like "reconnect" don't work.)

Who is that lady who makes the voice announcements? You know, those whole "base lost" or "health boost in 10 seconds" stuff.
Is it the same voice as the one who did it in e.g. CTF edition, just terrible distortion?
Which soundpack do they come from, if any?

Is there some default keybind that clears the console? Today it mysteriously emptied a buncha times for no reason...

Hi! Maybe you pressed KP +.
KP- for console history, and KP+ for reset.

Nah, KP+ and KP- are scrolling binds for me. One goes up, the other down.
My console was actually empty. I could not scroll anymore...

Errr, I mean scrolling up and down in the console, not scrolling like scroll wheel.

My guess is you have console warnings turned off and went through a sound entity without a cfg registering the file for it. The only stores a limited number of messages, and since "unregistered sound" messages still make it in, only invisible, they empty the entire console almost in an instant.

Nah, it was on the default maps. I was speccing insta matches.
Also, I have almost everything on, I actually see those unregistered sound messages.

But, now that you say it... There were a whole lotta bots around. Maybe the tons and tons of "blabla fragged blabla" did it...

#15255: keeping teams when a new map is loaded

by hypernova^ on 01/14/2015 23:22

Hey guys,
I'm wondering if there's a way to keep the players on the same team when a new map is loaded. It's a bit hard to organize team matches without this :))

#15256: Whats up with banning?

by kammy on 02/01/2015 12:31

What's up with servers banning for "cheating" so quickly, and without actually investigating if the "hacker" is legit or not?

I've been B& from venice inferno, and a few other servers already... It's quite irritating because it almost feels like I have to intentionally play badly to not raise suspicion.....

#15257: Re: Whats up with banning?

by Papriko on 02/01/2015 14:32, refers to #15256

Depends. There is a fully automated banning (or at least kicking) for a very few hacks, speed and jumphack in particular. When you move too fast, you get disconnected with a "message error".

For the rest it is just people kicking ya, but there isn't much that can be done. The serverLIST is hosted by the official forums, the actually connected servers are hosted by private people.
They basically have house right and can ban you for the most fucked up things when they want. Technically, they could even ban you for shit like "your username may not contain an E" or "I don't like your playermodel" or "screw you". It is THEIR server afterall.
This also includes butthurt and accusing you of cheating when you don't.

Probably the best thing to do is to play with competitive players. They can usually be found on clan-operated servers and psl.sauerleague.org servers. The only people who would ban you if you're not cheating are newbies who don't really know how to play. For example, I once got banned for 'aimbotting' when my acc was only ~40% and 'speedhacking' because the other guy didn't know you can bunnyhop. Typical pub insta stuff ^_^

ffa ftw :D

#15259: visual studio 2010 setup

by northstar on 02/16/2015 22:07

ok... i don't want you to get the impression that i am as stupid as i am about to sound in the next few minutes... but...

how do i configure vs2010 to debug... i think i have to set up the linkers, but i don't know how... then i need it to launch from the bat file... i can get it up (no snide remarks) if i copy the bin to the debug file, but i know there is a better way... besides, then it looks for the bat file...

i have a project going for the rpg section of the game, and its not bad, but codeblocks can only go so far...

snide remarks need not apply... i'm just a nice guy building a nice game that needs a tiny boost up, and i'll try not to bother you again, because i'm pretty sure i can take it from there...

beta should be ready by mid summer (yes, 2015)... northstar

#15260: A little question!

by Ultrashnotebel on 02/17/2015 17:11

Hello! I've been playing this game for almost 5 years I believe, the friend who introduced it for me plays it since even longer. I've recently managed to introduce even more of my friends to play it.
Anyway, I've played a lot, but I never went on the forums and, despite the time I spent on the game, I still consider myself a noob because there seem to be a lot of things I don't know xD

One of them is: Can I add AI on a map I made? If so, how, and can I play on it with friends?

Thanks in advance!

~Me, my friends Accabadora, Fantomas1999, fanastib and its_me_mario that you might find in-game but that speak French.

For a selfmade map, you will need waypoints. They essentially tell the bot where it can go and where not. I will include a link at the bottom of this post.
An important thing to note while making waypoints: only jump when you have to, do not bunnyhop to move around faster. Do not use weapon-jumps (e.g. with rifle or grenade) at all. Bots can not do them.

#15262: Looking for "volunteers" or hiring without pay

by PepsiBlue on 02/18/2015 02:37

I am looking for people to help me start up a new little game creation studio. I would like to call it Z-Tech Studios. I want people who are passionate about games who have some experience working on games(If not I can send you a link to a youtube channel). I am looking for concept Artists, texture Artists, level designers, Modelers, Programmers, Musicians, advertisers, and Writers(Must have done some work in interactive writing). Applications should be written like:

Name(First and Last):
Are you over the age of 14(Yes or No):
What position are you applying for:
Previous works(Please provide links):
Skype(if you have one):
Why should I "hire" you:

I'm sorry when I say hire I mean let you volunteer on the games as I can't pay anyone at this time.
For now we will use Sauerbraten's built in engine

I don't want to crush your hopes, but usually requests like that fail quite badly. The reason for this is simple: this community is relatively small, so there isn't many people to pick from.
Furthermore do those, who wanna help, usually do not have enough required skills and those who DO have them, have enough to do with their own projects.

"Artists, texture Artists, level designers, Modelers, Programmers, Musicians, advertisers, and Writers" that sounds like pretty much everything you need to make a game. What part are you exactly going to do?

Next thing: 14+? Really? You know what your project will look like when it is done by a bunch of 14 y/o? Don't get me wrong, there is some pretty talented 14 y/o, but the most of em...

Lastly: you expect people do have experience n stuff already, want them to advertise your game and do everything else, and there ain't even come ca$h involved? Good luck, mate :P

Maybe you should have a look at this page. It is written for sauerbraten modders, but the most should work for you as well. http://cubeengine.com/wiki/How_not_to_start_a_mod
