#13322: Re: @ Last Few Posts WRT Wiki

by Quin on 08/23/2010 02:36, refers to #13320

I actually never saw anything of the previous wiki other than the bits copied into the old docs directory, I had just assumed it was an old MediaWiki.

I agree that Wikispaces does a sufficient job, but the editing interface is a little clunky and TOC anchors are terrible (especially in the FAQ for hard linking in forum topics), not to mention the advertising (which I guess is tolerable).

The wiki doesn't get as much love as it should anyway, and while I could go ahead and work toward making our own locally, it's a lot of work for little value to the community. In the end it's a bit like "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" :P

If enough people want to work with me on the task I might reconsider, as I already have the expertise needed to do so; but for now I don't much see the point considering how neglected the wiki is anyway.

Also helpful: http://cube.wikispaces.com/space/pagelist

And as close as I can get to a pagelist on my/SheeEttin's wiki: http://cube.wikia.com/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&limit=500&showall=0&contribs=user&target=LeftClicker

And is the MediaWiki wiki set up on SourceForge, or does that need to be done as well?

#13325: Sauerbraten to OSCulator

by Johnny.s89 on 08/24/2010 03:41

This may sound a little strange but here goes. What i want to do is send the data from an online multiplayer sauerbraten match to a program called OSCulator via a TCP/IP port, and then send that data into a prorgram called Max/MSP which has the ability to turn data (any data) into sounds and what not. I intend to do a musical performance (non profit uni assesment) where the sounds are created by the actions of not just myself but the other players. I was just wondering if its possible to send Sauerbraten data via TCP/ip port, as i have no idea how to do this.

#13326: QServ

by DeathStar on 08/24/2010 14:15

I am currently working on a minimally invasive server modification for sauerbraten,

It will have a command line (!command) with commands such as !givemaster and !fragall..

the whole mod will not depend on any other languages, it will all be written in CPP/C.

please leave comments/mod suggestions.

Note: external addons such as Ircbot will NOT be included.

#13327: install

by jtoto_2002 on 08/25/2010 09:34

I downloaded the Justice edition but now I don't know what to do with this unzipped folder I have. How do I install it? I did this command but got this error thing...

from the src directory...
$ make install
make -C enet/ all
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/executive-diamond/Downloads/sauerbraten/src/enet'
make[1]: Nothing to be done for `all'.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/executive-diamond/Downloads/sauerbraten/src/enet'
g++ -O3 -fomit-frame-pointer -Wall -fsigned-char -Ishared -Iengine -Ifpsgame -Ienet/include -I/usr/X11R6/include `sdl-config --cflags` -o shared/cube.h.gch.tmp shared/cube.h
/bin/sh: sdl-config: not found
/bin/sh: g++: not found

I assume you use linux. You don't need to compile sauerbraten yourself. If you want to do that you have to install "buildessentials", "libSDL-dev", etc.

It's much easier to use the exectuable from the bin folder. Important: You must start it from the main-folder. Not from the bin-folder. Because Sauerbraten assumes that the "base" and "package" directory are in the folder it was started from.

Try updating you graphic card drivers. I think the ones that come with windows have little opengl support (haven't used windows in years though)

#13331: What are the limitations here?

by mikee on 08/27/2010 10:28

I've never really desired to make an FPS before, but I've been making RPG's and other games for years. I've played all the Halo games since they first released and love the multiplayer (Online gameplay).

My question is this: Without too much programming knowledge (If any) how easy is it to modify the engine? I mean... I've been planning a massive project and I'm looking for a simple engine to get started with. I want a lot of melee weapons that do different damage and have different speeds. As well as very custom ranged weapons that would require some thick animations. Along with those, I'd need a lot of exterior maps. Is all of this possible? Or am I wasting my time?

Thanks in advance!

Mikee

You'd need programming to do that with any engine, but if you are learning how, you could do worse than starting off with the Sauerbraten/Cube engines. Their source code is relatively simple.

This engine can be compiled into an executable game that could be available for distribution, correct?

Yes, but be aware that we do not provide technical support for the source code and modifications. If you choose to modify the code, you're on your own from that point.

#13335: Export selection to mdl/md2

by ak|Spycr@b on 08/28/2010 17:16

Hi, I\\\\\\\'m a Sauerbraten mapper and I really love the editing engine.
The only problem is that the maps (what I create) aren\\\\\\\'t compatible with any other engine/game production studio.
It would therefore be awesome if I could export my work to another format which other softwares can use in their projects.
I would recommend to think about this, as this would basically turn Sauerbraten into a 3D model studio. Which is awesome.
I\\\\\\\'ve never come across a 3D software which is that easy to use.

#13337: Re: Sauerbraten to OSCulator

by SheeEttin on 08/31/2010 09:46, refers to #13325

What you need to do is identify the best way to communicate data to your program (in this case, OSCulator). Sending data over TCP/IP is probably not it.

The most efficient/effective way I can think of is to write something to spoof a client, connect to a server, and read the data from the server. (Read the source for the whats & hows of multiplayer data.)

The easiest way I can think of is to just take a regular client, connect to a server (spectator mode, probably), and parse what it sends to stdout. (You'd probably want to add (a lot) more conoutf()s.)

#13338: motion blur in justice edition

by Bibi on 09/05/2010 18:47

Motion blur is not documented. I'd like to know if there is parameters to the /motionblur command. Only the first (0..1, wich means activated or not) is printed by the engine...

Try /motionblurmillis (value) and /motionblurscale (value), try different values.
PS : in the future, type /motionblur then press tab multiple times ;)
