#12678: I get a "Fatal Error" on startup for C2. What do I do? |
|
by Redfish12X
on 10/30/2009 21:21
|
 |

Upon starting the game, I get the "Console" looking screen, and then I get the main screen (logo, game types, so on), but only for a second or two. Then it flashes back to the "Console" and then shows this screen:
Cube 2: Sauerbraten fatal error
Cube 2: Sauerbraten Win32 Exception: 0xc0000005 [0x0]
executeret - command.cpp [513]
execute - command.cpp [692]
menu::gui - menus.cpp [25]
g3d_render - 3dgui.cpp [1072]
gl_drawmainmenu - rendergl.cpp [1557]
updatesounds - sound.cpp [355]
SDL_main - main.cpp
OK Button.
The console says this after it says some other stuff as well - if it's necessary to list I can upload a Print Screen to imageshack or something.
I'm running Windows XP Media Center Edition, if that matters. I'd like to play this game, so I'd appreciate your help.

And yes, please include anything in the console. (I like tinypic.com for easy one-off image hosting.)

sometimes firefox can make mistakes such as this if it fails to merge the original file with the .part data. do you have the latest firefox?

#12682: Snow Leopard Issue... |

I have been having an issue running cube 2 on my macbook pro with snow leopard. The game boots fine, but any map i load freezes up and the graphics go crazy. My graphics card is an intel GMA 950 which shouldn't be a problem because my mac mini can run it on leopard with a worse graphics card. My macbook also has 2 gigs of RAM so that shouldn't be the problem either. Is this game compatible with snow leopard?

We didn't do anything to make it not run on Snow Leopard, so the issue would rather be new bugs in Apple's drivers. You should report the regression to them through whatever appropriate channels they have for this, though I am not familiar with their bug reporting procedures.

#12686: Changes for competition? |

Hi, sorry if this has been asked a million times, but has anyone created or planned to create a mod tailored for serious competition, such as balancing the weapons and creating maps that are balanced, better HUD, ability to remove rocket/grenade smoke trails, etc?
The Sauerbraten Enhanced mod is a step in the right direction, I think, as far as improving the sounds and having nice crosshairs, but obviously these are only aesthetic changes, and the weapon balance needs serious work IMHO (chaingun is way too powerful, direct rockets do a laughable amount of damage, etc).

AssaultCube maybe? Other than that, there isn't one that is actively maintained as far as I know.

You're welcome to create one.
There are competitions on standard Cube 2, though.

Sauer works perfectly well. Also, the Chaingun is pretty bad at anything more then close range due to the bullet spread. It's even worse in that respect then the laag in Halo.

#12690: Texture Copyrights |

When I create a map for Sauerbraten and use the Textures that come with the game, do I have to name all the creators of the textures in the readme when I put it on quadropolis? For example Soc with his egypt textures. It is hard to figure out which texture is made by whom.
thx for answering.

Nope. Anything included in Cube 2 is there for map-building purposes. You don't need to do anything beyond use them.
This is actually because you're not actually distributing the textures. If, say, you wanted to make a map for another game with those textures and had to distribute them with your map, then you would need adhere to the license. (If you can't find a license, ask the author.
According to the Berne Convention, all rights, including those of distribution, are automatically assigned to the author of the work unless explicitly disclaimed. See Wikipedia.)

#12693: Elevators and Platforms |
|
by lenzorg

I enjoy the new elevators and platforms a lot. However, I have two questions.
1. When you fall on an elevator which is moving upwards, you will mostly fall through it. Is there a way to prevent your falling though it?
2. This is the entity as described in the Editing Reference: "elevator" [Y] N T S
If T is 0 the elevator will move without stopping. If T is bigger than 0 i can script a command. It would be to move up, down, or stop. Is there a way to tell the elevator to move without stopping like he would, if T was 0?
(my solution is to keep the T of the elevator 0 and have a platform block the elevator. This platform is controlled by a script. it works, but doesnt look that great. The elevator will not stand still but "shiver")
