#1104: Re: Fisheye mode for Cube

by Aardappel|home|holland on 01/02/2003 15:16, refers to #1098

wow! you did it before me :)
and you even ported my fisheye quake code to opengl too! it's a good day for fisheye lovers!

This is great stuff... when I get back to germany I'll have a look at compiling it for windows.

It's port of the Unreal map "DmMorbias"
I hope you'll like it!

Aard, please also look at Notes, there is an issue with Rocket Launcher (or feature, depends on how you look at it). Player roll is also a nice thing to get..

press T, type what you want, then press enter to chat. to change your name, hit the tilde key (~) and type "name X", where "X" would be the name you want. you can make that your name permenantly by opening the autoexec.cfg file in your cube folder with notepad, and typing your screenname in after "name".

Yay, more maps.

I'm not much of a fan of UT because most of the maps in that game suck. Morbias has a playable layout. Not a lot of options in terms of flow, player either goes forward or back to where he just was. The texturing is ok, the blue-red-brown combination is definitely not hard on the eyes. The yellow trim around the upper ridge is a good detail, as is the stepped ceiling to the skylight. I don't think rockets only leads to varied or interesting gameplay, and a quad in the centre would have mixed things up a little bit more.

Start playing with the textures of the walls and ceilings more and mix it up to add detail. Landmarks like murals or odd shapes (or the red lights) make layouts easier to learn; although that isn't really a problem on a layout this simple.

It's ok, but I think you can do better.

#1115: what if...

by SysteM_H on 01/05/2003 03:55

you put a map up for download on the internet, make a few minor corrections in the geometry, then save it and play someone on it who has the old version? does it affect the skybox/custom textures any? and what if you change the capitalization of the name?

My personal philosophy is that if I find an error in an old map I just let it go and try to not make that mistake next time.

In My Filthy Mind instance, on one side of one Cube a face is exposed but only by heightfield, so the texture was changed to something I didn't want because of a faulty optomization in the map. Most people probably won't notice though.

yeah, true, but this was one of those "misaligned corner" glitches, which would cause the game to crash if you happened to fire a rocket into the gap. you should know what I mean by "misaligned corners" from your own abuse map. I'm just such a perfectionist. I was just wondering if it would make it unable to play against someone else with the old version.

#1119: Request: English - German translator

by VerbalC on 01/06/2003 07:33

Is there anybody out there that would like to translate the whole rules segment on http://league.hofv.net/ to German for me? It would help the CUbe community greatly to have a German page as well as English.

If you want to do so, basically just translate it and send it by email to verbal@hofv.net

Please try to preserve the format a bit so I know what goes where. (i.e. for secion 1.1, labelit section 1.1, and so on)

Thanks; and also: sign up people!

I mean "Notes" on the page with fisheye patch. There are some outstanding issues.
Player roll is not implemented for the same reason its not implemented in Fisheye Quake ;)

#1121: mouse trouble

by netjiro on 01/07/2003 13:29

Hi, just downloaded and tried out cube.
Cool, except:

The mouse y axis is kaputt for me. When the sp game lauches I face horizontally, can move with kb all ok. But when I touch the mouse it immediately puts me facing the floor, and I can't get it to face up (except to change invert mouse, when it faces straight up istead).
Mouse x axis seems to work all right.

Anyone seen the same behavior?

Running gentoo linux, and a cube zip I downloaded yesterday from your first mirror on the download page.

Great project

Thanks
Jimmy

Sounds like you need to check and make sure that you have the latest version of SDL.

#1123: cubestuff, the league, etc.

by VerbalC on 01/08/2003 00:42

cubestuff hasn't been updated in a short while, due to being out for 2 weeks on Christmas. A pretty large update with everything that went on around Cube is coming.

If you're interested in the League, or have already signed up, view this thread: http://wouter.fov120.com/cube/forum.php4?action=display_thread&thread_id=166
at the bottom.

http://riclan.hofv.net/ has been updated also if anyone is interested..
