Cannot Find User Game Files

by AtlasSteal on 01/04/2015 03:54, 11 messages, last message: 09/09/2017 22:12, 2107 views, last view: 04/14/2024 07:51

I had this problem on my last Mac using Collect Edition. Normally, when I would use Trooper or Justice editions, I'd open up Sauerbraten and a window would pop up with a couple of tabs like "Server" and "Maps." In the bottom right-hand corner of this window there were two buttons. One said "Play" and the other said something along the lines of "Show User Game Files." That button is how I would access screenshots. However, with Collect Edition, a different window appears telling me "Sauerbraten is an application... would you like to run it?" The only options I have are "Run," "Cancel," and "Do not show this message again."
I would like to say I know my way around Sauer on a Mac fairly well, but I cannot seem to find any traces of screenshots. Can anyone help me with this?

You could try to open the ingame notepad and then use it to create a small file. Save it with some obnoxious name like blabliblub.cfg and then use your system's search function.

I'm still having the same problem. I'd like to open up my custom map list. I'm not sure why, but I cannot access my User Game Files. Any help?

Perhaps you could search the Internet for where program files of installed software are stored on your system.

Youre not gonna find it any of those ways. It fairly simple but i havent done it in a while. Basically how applications are done now on mac is that they zip them self up in an application. This is basically a zip file that contains a default application exe (or what ever mac calls them, and all contianing files, texture maps etc). To get to this stuff you have to go into your finder, find the application in the application folder, right click on it, and there will be something allong the lines of show resource files, I think its the 2nd or 3rd option. Then that will open up the "zip" file. In there you will see the standard sauer set up so it should be under game data/screenshots IDB but if you google it it should have a tutorial on how to open the resource files. This too me a few hours to figure out when i first used sauer on a mac. Doint a search wont do nothing cuz this application "zip" file is not part of the active list of files/folders etc so it doesnt look inside any application.

The proper way, according to the Wiki, would be to follow this directory:

"~Library/Application Support/sauerbraten."

However, "sauerbraten" does not exist within my "Application Support" folder. My current question is simply, why? As far as I know, I have nothing manually to cause that. I'm 99.99% that it has been like that since I downloaded it.

On top of this problem. I cannot add/delete/modify ANY files within my "Contents" folder (the folder that contains my "packages" folder which houses all of the textures, models, skins, etc.). It seems to be a problem with folder permissions; for every other folder I am able to change my permissions, but for my "Contents" folder, I cannot. As of right now, I am only able to "Read" the contents, which just allows me to view what resides in the folders. However, I am not allowed to "Write" which would allow me add/delete/modify files in this folder. It does not give me the option to change it either.

Apparently, you use linux or an other unix-like system.

If you have the needed rights, you can change it with the console (it can have an other name; I mean the command-line interface).

If you don't these rights, you'll need find somebody who have them (at least the root user have such rights).

I'm actually on a Mac. As far as I know, I do not have permission to modify anything within my "Contents" folder.

What do you mean by root user? If you're referring to the owner of the computer, that would be myself. I can change permissions for virtually every other folder, except this one.

I solved this problem a while back, but decided to share with anyone else who happens to experience this problem on a Mac. For some reason, the folder is "hidden" so you must click on the "Go" button on the Finder menu bar, then hold the "Options" button. Then you should see a folder labeled "Library." Click on that then from there click on "Application Support" and finally click on "sauerbraten." All your screenshots and maps will be there.
