Bug Reports

by eihrul on 09/03/2008 01:41, 1175 messages, last message: 12/31/2023 08:39, 915767 views, last view: 03/29/2024 09:48

Please post your bug reports in here.

With your bug report, please submit the following information:

1) OS: Your operating system, i.e. Linux, Windows, or otherwise and what version you are using.

2) 3D card: The 3D card you are using. If you do not know, this is printed on the "Renderer:" line in the console when Sauerbraten starts up.

3) The edition of Sauerbraten you are using, i.e. Assassin edition, CVS as of a particular date, or otherwise.

4) Error information: If you are on Windows, a pop-up message showing filenames and line numbers should show up when Sauerbraten crashes; if possible, post a screenshot or a copy/paste of this. If on Linux, post a log of the startup info from the console, including relevant errors or any info you might have discovered. If on MacOS X, please post the crash log if applicable.

5) A description of the problem and how to reproduce it. Please give as much detail as possible on how someone can recreate the problem, in as certain terms as you can. If someone else can't reproduce the problem, it is unlikely he can fix it or tell you what is wrong.

#371: Error at Game Start

by deadfish on 09/05/2009 19:40

Im using Windows Vista 64 Ultimate, a Radeon HD 4750 card, and Sauerbraten 2009_05_04.

Problem: I can\\\'t start the Game. Whenever I doubleclick the .exe an error message appears:

Cube 2: Sauerbraten fatal error
could not find core textures

Anyone knows where to find those textures and where to put them?

Thanks for answers :D

You need to run the sauerbraten.bat file, NOT directly run the sauerbraten.exe.

#374: grass fade

by Hirato Kirata on 09/06/2009 08:26

1) take any grass texture, preferably one which has been saved to have the RGB values in the 0 alpha ares to be 0, 0, 0

2) turn grass on, and use a bigger value for grassdist, 1024 should be plenty

you'll notice, that the further the grass, grass textures with predominantly translucent areas will blend and mainly show the colours that's in the translucent areas.in the case of the suggested texture, it'll look significantly darker (likewise, if the RGB was 255, 255, 255, it'd be significantly lighter)

is this an intended effect or a bug?

in case it's an intended effect: you can work around it, by taking the texture, using say, the gimp, to run several strong blurs on the translucent areas (use select by colour), and then set the alpha in those areas to 1

in case anyone would like example textures to try it with, try these two near identical ones

and

the first fades to near white, the second fades to green

#376: Screen fail...

by TheRealJalex on 09/06/2009 17:12

Using: Windows 7 RC build 7100

Ok I recently started playing sauer again because it used to keep lagging unplayably badly, even on the main menu. However this has been fixed now (no idea how) but every so often when I play, most of the screen will freeze, except for a small corner at the bottom-left hand corner. I tried changing the same to run in windowed mode but that didn\\\'t work and I don\\\'t know what to do. Can anyone help?

Thanks

the glitch only happened on killcore this time and only when I fell off the edge of the map.

But this is not always the case.
To me nothing looks wrong and will try updating drivers.

#379: Windows exception error

by Joe Evil Jr on 09/08/2009 01:42

When I try to start a match it seems like it's loading fine and then I get this: Cub2: Sauerbraten Win32 Exception 0xc0000005 [0x116784b0]

I'm running Windows XP SP3

It is unlikely that video card will run Sauerbraten, as the 3D drivers for it are likely severely buggy and poorly maintained at this point given the video card's age. ATI stopped supporting the card many years ago.

#382: Could not read map filename.ogz

by NotChar on 09/12/2009 04:08

Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit
NVIDIA 9800 GT
Trooper edition

When trying to load maps, I get an error in the console: 'could not read map packages\base\filename.ogz'
I have made sure to set the program and .bat to run as adminstrator, and made sure nothing is read-only.
What do I do?

by MeatROme on 09/12/2009 11:45, refers to #382

You don't need to run them as Administrator;
what about the initial map - that loaded, right? - anyway try TAB-completion.
Hit: "T" then "/" then enter "map" and a space .. now pick a letter and hit TAB a few times .. delete back to the space and pick a new letter. You should get results for any letter except "j", "q", "x", "y" or "z".

#384: Team colors

by seisatsu on 09/19/2009 00:32

When playing in any team-based game mode, the color of other players\\\' models, as well as the color of my model, flicker randomly between blue and red. This obviously makes it impossible to tell the teams apart.

OS: Fedora Linux 11 (x86)

Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel(R) 965GM GEM 20090114 x86/MMX/SSE2 (Tungsten Graphics, Inc)

Driver: 2.1 Mesa 7.6-devel

Is this a problem with the awful quality of my card? It still seems strange that the models would not be textured with one definite color.

#385: Re: Team colors

by eihrul on 09/19/2009 00:40, refers to #384

The problem is with the Mesa driver - you are the only person to ever report an issue like that across Sauer's entire 8 year history. Please report this issue to them.

#386: Re: Team colors

by seisatsu on 09/19/2009 01:57, refers to #385

Just how should I go about reporting the issue to Mesa? In order to make a detailed and useful report, what do I need to tell them? I don't know how the Sauerbraten code is interacting with the driver, what GL features are being referenced, or what methods are used to render the team color skins. Without a crash and/or debugging output, any report to them would be useless.

#387: Re: Team colors

by eihrul on 09/19/2009 02:12, refers to #386

The best you can do is tell them what you told me, and that it is the only platform on which it ever occurs. If they don't want to look into the issue, then there is not much else we can do.

#388: ..

by Milton on 09/20/2009 00:49

My system is similar:

OS: Debian SID (x86)
Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel(R) 965GM GEM 20090712 2009Q2 RC3 x86/MMX/SSE2
Mesa: 2.1 Mesa 7.5.1
Xorg Intel driver: 2.8.1

There are no problems with my setup and no glitches with the team color.

You really should use the latest STABLE version of mesa: 7.5.1. You\\\'re using an (very) old developer version of mesa 7.6...

I\\\'m also running Vista 64-bit (though my version is Premium, not Ultimate). I get the same problem. When I run the executable, I get a popup saying \\\"could not find core textures.\\\" In the command-lines, it detects the video card, says driver 3.1.0, then \\\"Rendering using the OpenGL GLSL shader path,\\\" and then it errs out, saying \\\"could not load texture data\\\\notexture.png,\\\" and the next line \\\"could not find core textures\\\".
